Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are a dual purpose breed – both as companion dogs and show dogs. They are well-known for their pleasant, gentle personalities, and their bright, cheerful expressions. Cavaliers are a toy breed, usually taking between 11 and 13 inches in height and weighing between 13 and 18 pounds. They have soft, silky coats that come in black and tan, ruby, Blenheim (white and chestnut), tricolor, and black and white.
It is possible for Cavalier King Charles Spaniel owners to experience allergies, though it is not a direct result of owning the breed. The breed itself is considered to be hypoallergenic, meaning that the dog's fur and dander will not typically create allergic reactions. Allergies from a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel are more likely to be caused by contact with pollen or other environmental allergens that the dog has come into contact with while outdoors, or by the saliva of the dog when it licks someone.
When it comes to feeding your Cavalier King Charles, it is important to understand that their diet should differ from other breeds. The size of a Cavalier King Charles puppy can vary quite a bit depending on its breed, but on average they usually reach their full adult size at around 12 to 13 months of age. Generally, males will reach a height of 12 to 13 inches at the shoulder while females will range from 12 to 12.5 inches. When it comes to weight, males generally reach 12 to 18 pounds, while females tend to fall into the 10 to 14 pound range.
Depending on your Cavalier King Charles' age, general health, and activity level, it's recommended that he gets at least 30 minutes of exercise per day. You can certainly engage in longer bouts of walking, jogging, and/or playing fetch with him. However, if it fits your lifestyle better, you can break up the time into shorter increments so your Cavalier can benefit from more frequent activity throughout the day.
Generally speaking, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels tend to do well with other pets when properly introduced and socialized. Because they are naturally sociable, friendly, and gentle-natured, they usually get along well with other animals in the home.
