Questions & Answers
The most interesting thing about Cavalier King Charles Spaniels is that they are incredibly loyal companions. Often referred to as 'gentlemen dogs' because of their calm, friendly, and attentive demeanour, Cavaliers are usually eager to please their human families. In addition to being affectionate, these dogs are known to be intelligent, lively, and adaptable to different living conditions. With their trademark silky hair and big eyes, they are also incredibly beautiful dogs. Perhaps what makes them truly special is their ability to form strong bonds with their owners, and providing love and comfort for many years.
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a small dog, typically weighing in around 13-18 pounds and standing 12-14 inches tall at the shoulder. Its coat is an interesting combination of double layered, silky fur that's often medium-length on its outer coat and longer and more feathery on its underside. The colors vary, but the Cavalier King Charles comes in four distinct varieties: black and tan, ruby, Blenheim, and Tricolor.
Cavalier King Charles generally do best when fed a premium diet high in the quality of ingredients and low in carbohydrates. We suggest going with an all-natural pet food formula made with real meats (not by-products) as the first ingredient and supplemented with whole fruits and vegetables. If possible, opt for a brand free of artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, and sweeteners, as these can be difficult for some dogs to digest and may cause unwanted side-effects.
To become the best puppy parent you can be for your Cavalier King Charles, there are a few steps you should take. Start by researching the breed and learning about their needs and characteristics. Establishing a routine for your pup is also important, including providing regular exercise and play and trips to the vet. Ensuring your pup is well-socialized and has plenty of opportunities to interact in a safe environment with other dogs and humans is key to their successful development.
Cavaliers King Charles come in a range of sizes; due to careful breeding over the years, they can typically range in size from 9-13 inches in height and may weigh anywhere between 9-18 pounds. Coat colors can range from black and tan, black and white, ruby, tricolor and many others, while most often feature the traditional white coat with black feathering, muzzle, and eyes. A 'Toy' type of Cavalier King Charles is even smaller, usually measuring between 7-9 inches with a weight of 8-12 pounds.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are a breed of small, active dogs that require exercise to stay healthy and happy. Generally, they need a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise each day, such as walks, runs, or play with other dogs. If left without exercise, they can become bored, and can also develop behavioral issues due to pent-up energy. Not only will proper exercise keep them fit and healthy, but it is also an excellent way to keep the dog mentally stimulated. In addition, it can help with socialization, and strengthen the bond between pet and owner.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels can make excellent first-time dogs! These little, affectionate pups are often eager to please their owners and form strong attachments with them. They don't require an immense amount of exercise although they do enjoy daily walks and play time and they do well in town or in the country. They have an inherent need to be around people and their upbeat personality often goes well with first-time owners. They are loyal and sweet, which makes them great family dogs.
Training a Cavalier King Charles is not necessarily easy, but with the right techniques and proper guidance, it can certainly be an enjoyable experience for both you and your dog. It is important to be patient and consistent when training any breed of dog; however, the Cavalier King Charles can often respond quickly and positively to the correct training methods because of their attentiveness and eagerness to please. Working with a reputable, certified trained is incredibly helpful when it comes to teaching a puppy or even an adult Cavalier King Charles the basics of good behavior and house etiquette.
