The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a small-sized breed of dog originally from the United Kingdom. It is a toy breed and is a small, versatile, and active companion. Their size ranges from 12 to 13 inches tall and they are known for having an affectionate and gentle disposition. Known for their beautiful coat of long, silky fur and feathered ears, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are excellent family pets and make great companions for children.
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has a beautiful, soft silky coat that comes in four distinct colors, Blenheim, Tri-color, Black and Tan, and Ruby. The range of colors and textures of the coat make it so appealing and eye catching. The Blenheim is mostly white with chestnut markings, the Tri-color is white with black and tan markings, the Black and Tan is solid black with tan markings, and Ruby is a solid ruby red color. The coat is moderate in length with long feathers on the ears, chest, legs, and feet.
Cavalier King Charles are incredibly active and social little dogs, so it is important that they get the right nutrition to stay healthy and happy. There are a variety of foods that are appropriate for your breed. Many owners opt for a high-quality dry food specifically formulated for small breeds, as it helps maintain proper weight and promote dental health. Others may feed a combination of dry and canned food. You should also include some form of protein such as cooked egg, lean meat, or fish. An occasional treat of a small piece of fruit, vegetable, or cheese is also acceptable.
To best prepare for your new Cavalier King Charles, you need to make sure your home and outdoor living space is a safe and secure environment to welcome a new pup into. First, if you don't already have a fenced-in yard, consider installing one prior to adoption. Be sure to remove any hazardous items from your lawn and in your home, such as chemicals or other toxic items a pup can consume. Additionally, finding a veterinarian and researching Cavalier breeders are key steps to take.
The size of your Cavalier King Charles puppy can vary depending on its gender. Generally, adult males grow to reach approximately 12 – 13 inches tall and weigh an average of 13 – 18 pounds, while adult females typically reach 11 – 12 inches tall and weigh 12 – 17 pounds. However, due to variation within the breed, puppies can range in size from smaller to larger than the specified range. Ultimately, it's impossible to determine exactly how big your specific puppy will be until it is fully matured.
The exact amount of time a Cavalier King Charles should be walked each day depends on a wide range of factors, such as their age, their current health, the terrain of the area they're walking in, the temperature, and the duration of the walk. Generally speaking, though, it's recommended that adult Cavaliers get at least 20 minutes of exercise each day. Specifically for walking, a safe guideline is to allow 5 minutes per month of age up to a maximum of two hours per day.
Caviler King Charles have generally been known to be friendly with other pets, though it certainly depends on the individual dog. When introducing any dog to a new pet, it is recommended to do so slowly by keeping both pets in separate rooms at first and taking them out one at a time. After both pets have had some time to get used to each other, it is usually safe to allow them to meet and spend time together. Socializing your Caviler King Charles from a young age can also help ensure they are comfortable around other animals.
Cavaliers King Charles are undeniably intelligent dogs. They are eager to learn and respond well to obedience training. Cavaliers are also known to be very gentle and affectionate, creating a strong bond with their owners. Breeding Cavaliers for conformation and agility events requires intelligence from the dog. Cavaliers have a high level of adaptability and can learn quickly, making them excellent canine companions. In addition, they excel at doggy sports such as agility, flyball, and rally. Above all, Cavaliers are intuitive and perceptive. They tend to pick up on their owners' emotions and react to them accordingly.
