Questions & Answers
Cavapoos are an interesting mix of two breeds, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Toy Poodle. This unique combination means they have the intelligence and trainability of the Poodle, while maintaining the laid-back, affectionate, and loyal qualities of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Cavapoos are also known for being hypoallergenic, thanks to the Poodle, as well as longer lasting energy levels, due to their hybrid vigor. They also tend to shed less than other breeds, making them ideal for people with allergies.
To best manage allergies with Cavapoos, it's important to practice good grooming habits, such as regular brushing and bathing. Additionally, it’s important to select a high-quality pet food for your Cavapoo that is free of potential allergens like dairy, wheat, soy, or corn. Additionally, it's also important to keep your home free of dust, pollen, and other airborne allergens.
Cavapoos are generally known to be a healthy and hearty breed of dog, however, that doesn't mean that all foods are suitable for a Cavapoo. It is therefore important to know what not to feed your Cavapoo. Certain foods such as onions, garlic, and grapes are known to be toxic to Cavapoos, and feeding your Cavapoo these could result in a variety of illnesses. Sugary treats, processed food, and fatty meats should also be avoided, as these can lead to obesity if fed in large quantities.
Before you bring your new puppy home, there are a few steps you should take in order to ensure their safety and comfort. First, make sure to remove any hazardous objects or materials from your home that could potentially harm them, such as toxic chemicals, plastic bags, or sharp objects. Next, be sure to puppyproof any electrical cords or outlets by covering them with plastic tubing or cord protectors. Additionally, it's a good idea to secure or remove any furniture that could be easily toppled over, such as tables or chairs.
Cavapoos generally come in two sizes, toy and mini. Toy Cavapoos typically weigh around 10-14 lbs and stand approximately 8-11 inches tall, while mini Cavapoos generally weigh 15-20 lbs and stand at about 12-14 inches in height. You may also come across some Cavapoos bred Smart Puppy size which are typically 12-14 inches tall and weigh 14-18 lbs.
Cavapoos are a combination of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle breeds, and as such they require a moderate but regular amount of exercise. For general health and wellbeing, they should be taken for daily walks or gentle runs as well as engaging in a variety of activities including swimming, laser-chasing, and agility. The amount of exercise needed varies from dog to dog, based on size, physical needs, and temperament. However, most Cavapoos will need at least twenty to thirty minutes of exercise daily, and some more, depending on their level of energy and enthusiasm.
Cavapoos can make excellent family dogs, as they are full of loving energy, have a great attitude, and a sociable, playful disposition. Cavapoos can thrive in many settings, from busy urban homes to rural areas. Their calm and sweet personalities mean that Cavapoos are usually very friendly and enjoy spending time with their people. They also tend to interact well with other pets and children, earning them a reputation as being good family dogs.
Training your Cavapoo is just like training any other dog. It requires patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement. Start with basic commands like sit, stay, and come. It may take time, but patience and consistency is key. Give your Cavapoo treats when he or she completes the desired behavior and reward with plenty of praise. Establish routine and adhere to it as much as possible. Use positive, gentle reinforcement methods to ensure your Cavapoo feels safe and secure while learning. Be sure to vary activities to keep your dog engaged and excited for the next lesson.
