Questions & Answers
One of the most interesting things about Cavapoos is their amazing adaptability. For one, they are companion dogs, so these hybrid animals are excellent at providing companionship without becoming too demanding or hyperactive. They are also known for their intelligence, making them great problem solvers and great candidates for training. Cavapoos also do incredibly well with children and other animals, which makes them great family pets. Lastly, Cavapoos have wonderful temperaments and are easy going and calm. This makes them low maintenance and an ideal companion for any household.
Cavapoos, otherwise known as a Cavoodle, can vary from low to moderate shedders. It depends on each individual canine's heritage, since Cavapoos are a mix between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. The Cavalier’s shedding is moderate while the Poodle’s shedding is typically non-existent or low. Therefore, if the characteristics of the Poodle’s non-shedding are more dominant in the Cavapoo’s genes, then it is likely the Cavapoo will also be non-shedding.
Cavapoos are very adaptive and do not typically have any special dietary needs. However, their diet should be tailored to their age, size, and activity level. Puppies should have higher amounts of proteins, minerals, and other nutrients than adult dogs in order to support their growth. Senior Cavapoos may need fewer calories and more fiber to support their digestion. Additionally, it's important to ensure your pet is getting adequate amounts of omega-3 fatty acids, as well as vitamins and minerals such as zinc, copper, and selenium.
It is important to make sure that you are adequately prepared for your new Cavapoo. To best ensure that you are ready for them, you should first research about the breed to have a better understanding of their temperament, habits, and any health issues they may be predisposed to. Once you have enough information on the breed, make sure your house is properly puppy-proofed, and purchase all of the necessary supplies such as a crate, food, bedding, and toys for your pup.
Cavapoos come in a variety of sizes, ranging from small to large. Smaller Cavapoos are typically 10-14 inches tall and weigh between 10-20 pounds. Medium-sized Cavapoos grow to 14-17 inches tall and weigh between 15-25 pounds. Larger Cavapoos grow to be as tall as 17-20 inches and weigh from 15-30 pounds. All of these size classes are considered toy and mini breeds, meaning they are small dogs and won’t need to exercise as much as larger breeds.
Cavapoos are known to be high-energy and extremely playful, so it's very likely that they would enjoy swimming. They are a cross between Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and Poodles, so they have the water-loving Poodle genes which makes them perfect swimmers. They love the water and it can be used as a great activity for physical exercise. Cavapoos are smart and easily trained, so you can teach them a few basic commands for safety when they're in the water. Swimming is also mentally stimulating and can keep them entertained for hours.
Absolutely! Cavapoos are incredibly well-suited for family life. They have a sweet and sensitive nature that makes them instantly loveable. They are small in size and are comfortable indoors, which makes them great companions for people of any age. Cavapoos are highly trainable, so they are quick to learn what behaviors are considered acceptable and which are not. Plus, they enjoy spending time with their human family and get along with other pets in the home.
Each Cavapoo’s individual exercise needs will depend largely on its age, energy level, and breed-specific qualities. Generally speaking, Cavapoos should get at least 30-60 minutes of exercise per day. If your Cavapoo is young, it's important to ensure that the activity is age-appropriate and that your pup has sufficient time to rest afterwards. Remember to provide your Cavapoo with opportunities to play, walk, run, and interact with you regularly. With age, most Cavapoos will require more exercise and activity.
