Cavapoos are a popular hybrid breed that are a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. As a result, these dogs are usually very friendly, affectionate, and have a loyal nature. In terms of appearance, Cavapoos vary in size depending on whether they were bred with a Toy Poodle or a Standard Poodle. Generally, these dogs have a moderate energy level, although some may have more or less energy depending on the traits they inherited from their parent breeds.
Cavapoos are a hybrid breed of dog that is a cross between the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Poodle. As this is a crossbreed, the amount of shedding can vary from one Cavapoo to another. Generally speaking, they are a low-shedding breed, and regular grooming will help to reduce any shedding further. Cavapoos often carry the non-shedding gene of the Poodle, so most Cavapoos are usually non-shedding or have very minimal shedding.
Generally speaking, your Cavapoo will need to be fed a quality kibble made from animal proteins and limited carbohydrates. The specific diet will depend on age; puppies should be fed a puppy-specific diet, whereas older dogs should be fed a diet that meets their nutritional needs as they age. Additionally, always look for food with the American Association of Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) stamp, as this means that the food meets the nutritional standards and has been approved by them.
Becoming the best puppy parent while waiting for your Cavapoo begins with taking the time to educate yourself on best practices and what to expect when caring for a puppy. Research dog breeds to determine which type of pet will best fulfill the needs and wants of your family, familiarize yourself with important puppy behaviors such as crying, potty training, and chewing, and familiarize yourself with the essential items you will need in order to provide your pet with a comfortable, healthy environment.
Cavapoos are usually between 10 and 20 inches tall, and they typically weigh between 10 and 20 pounds when fully grown. Depending on the characteristics of each individual puppy, however, they can range from as little as 6 to as much as 25 pounds. The size of your Cavapoo at maturity will largely depend on the breed of their parents: Cavapoos bred from a Toy Poodle, for instance, are usually on the smaller end of the spectrum, whereas those with a Standard Poodle parent are typically larger.
Cavapoos are fairly energetic and thrive on regular exercise. They typically need at least 45 minutes of exercise per day, with two extended walks per day being even better. It's beneficial to break the exercise routine up into shorter, more frequent exercise sessions if possible. Activities such as fetch, swimming, agility, and Frisbee chasing can also be incorporated into their daily routine for optimum mental and physical stimulation. Additionally, the right amount of exercise often dictates a Cavapoo's temperament, so making sure that they receive enough activity can help reduce the chances of behavioral issues.
Cavapoos are generally excellent with kids. They are known for being friendly and loving, which makes them very good around children. Cavapoos tend to be gentle and even-tempered, so they are unlikely to cause any problems. Cavapoos may also be easily trained, so they can learn to obey rules that children set for them. They can also provide good companionship to kids. Cavapoos usually form strong bonds with their guardians, and it's likely that the bond between the Cavapoo and your family's children will be just as strong.
Training a Cavapoo can be a rewarding experience, but it is important to recognize that the pup will require a lot of patience and dedication from their handler for them to learn. Dedication towards regular and consistent reinforcement of desired behavior is key, as this breed is highly intelligent and eager to please. It is also important to keep the lessons fun, utilizing positive reinforcement and understanding the pup’s individual character. Keeping sessions short but frequent will also be important, as too much time spent training can become overwhelming and counterproductive.
