Questions & Answers
Cavapoos, also known as Cavoodle Dogs, are a super-friendly hybrid breed that is a mix of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. They are considered to be a low-shedding puppy, perfect for people with allergies, and have an upbeat, playful personality. Cavapoos have an average life expectancy of 12-15 years, making them an ideal companion! They range in size from 10-20 pounds and come in a variety of colors, such as tan, black, white, and red.
Cavapoos are a hybrid breed created by crossing a Poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They possess the endearing characteristics and intelligence of the Poodle with the loving, people-pleasing nature of the Cavalier. Cavapoos are generally a low-shedding breed, making them a desirable choice for families with pets allergies or homes where shedding simply isn't acceptable. They have a softer undercoat which is often wavy or curly and, depending on the mix of Poodle to Cavalier, the shedding can be minimal.
Cavapoos typically have no more dietary needs than any other small or medium-sized dog. They are considered smart mammals and tend to be very active, so they should receive a balanced diet that provides them with adequate energy for their lifestyle. For a healthy Cavapoo, the best diet consists of specially-formulated dry kibble to provide them with all of the essential vitamins and minerals they need and some canned or frozen wet food as a treat.
Preparing for a new Cavapoo is an exciting process that requires some thoughtful preparation. If you live in a home with other pets, start introducing the new pup to the family before the actual arrival. Happily, Cavapoos are smart and social, so their transition time should be relatively easy. Beyond that, make sure your home is puppy-proof. This means blocking off access to areas with wires or chewy items and setting up puppy pens.
Cavapoos are often considered smallto medium-sized dogs, depending upon how much the Poodle genetics are expressed. The Cavapoo has a moderate size range, typically reaching between 10 and 18 inches tall at the shoulder and weighing 10-30 pounds. Cavapoos tend to stay on the smaller side of the size spectrum, making them a great option for smaller living spaces and those who are unable to handle a larger dog. However, even if a Cavapoo remains on the smaller size, some may still seem bigger because of their longer hair.
Absolutely! Your Cavapoo would likely enjoy an occasional jog or moderate, long-distance run. Keep in mind that overweight and/or older dogs should not exercise as strenuously as younger, healthier dogs. Training your Cavapoo to walk or run in an organized, non-chaotic manner is also very important. Before starting any running program, make sure your Cavapoo has an up-to-date bill of health from the vet. Also remember to always keep your pup hydrated and give them the necessary breaks along the way.
Absolutely! Cavapoos are generally great family dogs that possess a sweet disposition and loving nature. They are a highly adaptable cross-breed consisting of both the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Poodle. They have an intelligent and eager to please attitude, making them easy to train. Cavapoos also tend to be hypoallergenic which makes them an excellent option for families with allergy sufferers. Additionally, Cavapoos have a joyful and affectionate energy that makes them incredibly enjoyable to be around.
An effective Cavapoo training program should involve at least 15 to 20 minutes of dedicated time per day. However, when including walking and other bonding activities, the total time spent with your Cavapoo should increase to at least 30 minutes. Additionally, you should incorporate a variety of activities into your daily training routine such as obedience training, activity play, reward-based behaviors, and socialization. Experienced pet parents may find that increasing the total time spent training and playing with their Cavapoo to an hour or more greatly enhances the bonding experience and encourages successful training.
