Questions & Answers
Cavapoos are hybrid dogs that are created by cross-breeding a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. The Cavapoo is classed as a designer dog breed, and is known for its energy, intelligence, and affection towards its owner. Cavapoos are usually good with children and other animals, making them an ideal family pet. They are a small size, typically weighing no more than 18 pounds when fully grown, and usually have a soft wavy coat that ranges in color from cream to reddish-brown.
Cavapoos are known for being very low-shedding dogs. However, it's important to note that while they definitely have much less fur to worry about than other dog breeds, they can still shed a small amount of hair. This hair is usually light and fine and not very visible, so if you are looking for a dog that doesn't shed at all, the Cavapoo may not be the best choice for you. However, Cavapoos are still one of the top low-shedding breeds around, and are a great pick if shedding doesn't bother you.
Cavapoos are a crossbreed of Poodles and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and their diet should reflect this combination of breeds. The most important consideration is to provide quality nutrition to ensure ongoing health. A balanced diet for a Cavapoo could include a high quality dry kibble for dogs, supplemented with some wet food for puppies or older dogs. It's important to offer a variety of different food sources and not rely solely on one type of product.
Prior to bringing your Cavapoo home, it's important to make preparations to ensure your pup has a safe, comfortable, and caring environment. Start by puppy-proofing your home. Remove any items your pup may consider chew toys, such as electrical wires or cords, and be sure to use pet-safe cleaning products to disinfect the area. Invest in a high-quality crate and some essential items such as a toy, bed, food, and water bowls. Spend time familiarizing your Cavapoo with its new home and socializing it with other family members, friends, and pets.
Cavapoos come in different sizes and can range from toy, mini, and standard. Toy Cavapoos are usually between 6-10 inches at the shoulder and weigh anywhere from 6-15 pounds. Mini Cavapoos are around 11-14 inches at the shoulder and can weigh from 15-25 pounds. Standard Cavapoos measure greater than 14-18 inches tall at the shoulder and can weigh from 25-45 pounds.
Walking your Cavapoo for at least 30 minutes per day is a great way to keep your pup healthy and happy. Depending on your Cavapoo's age and energy levels, however, you may want to increase the time spent walking. A general recommendation for adult Cavapoos is to aim for somewhere between 30 minutes and an hour of walking each day. However, it is best to listen to your pup as they will give you an indication of how much they need.
Cavapoos are universally known as the perfect family pet and they tend to have especially strong bonds with children. Their gentle yet energetic personality makes them great playmates and companions. They also enjoy the vigorous activity that often comes with having children in the home. Cavapoos love to be involved in activities and often become fast friends with kids of all ages. They are great snugglers and accordion to their human companions with great loyalty. Cavapoos are easily trainable and have a very patient nature making them a wonderful addition to any family with kids.
Training Cavapoos should be an ongoing process, but how much per day will depend on your individual dog and your overall goals. Generally speaking, plan for at least 15 to 20 minutes of training a day, but with several breaks throughout so your pup can process what you've taught. Forcing your pup to train for more than 20 minutes at a time may lead to frustration and lack of engagement. Make sure to break up your training into several sessions throughout the day and to end on a positive note.
