Questions & Answers
Cavapoos are often considered a hybrid of two very popular breeds the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Poodle. This mix leads to a friendly, smart, and stylish pup! They're categorized as a small breed, often weighing between 12-20 pounds. They may have two coats, either long or curly, that need frequent brushing and grooming. Cavapoos are known to be active, yet gentle and adaptable. They're great with children and other pets, as their personalities are described as being fun-loving and affectionate.
The Cavapoo coat is quite unique. It typically features a soft, curly to wavy and dense coat that can come in a number of colors. Depending upon the parents, Cavapoo coats may come in a variety of colors from white, cream, tan, golden, black, apricot and red. Cavapoos generally have low to non-shedding coats, making them ideal for those with allergies. They need regular brushing and grooming to keep their coats looking their best.
Cavapoos are generally small, fun-loving dogs that require a nutritious, balanced diet. As with many other breeds of dogs, Cavapoos should be fed with a combination of high-quality dry kibbles, wet food, natural, and homemade food. Their food should be high in proteins, essential fatty acids, and low in carbohydrates and grains. Vitamins, minerals, and supplements should also be given to them to ensure their well-being and proper growth. The amount to be fed varies depending on the weight and metabolism of the dog.
Before getting a Cavapoo, it would be wise to get some essential supplies. The first item you should buy is a crate, either a collapsible or rigid one. This will give the Cavapoo a safe area to sleep and relax in. You should also invest in toys, a bed, and food and water dishes. It's important to get a collar and leash, as well as an ID tag with the pet's name and your contact information. Buy some treats, too; they are great for training and will come in handy once you begin potty training your dog.
Cavapoos come in a variety of sizes, depending on the size of the parent breeds. Generally, adult Cavapoos range from 6 to 20 pounds. The smaller sizes are referred to as 'Toy' Cavapoos, those of medium size are 'Miniature' Cavapoos, and the larger sizes, which can for up to 20 pounds, are called 'Mini' Cavapoos. Depending on the size of the Poodle used for breeding, there can also be differences in the height of adult Cavapoos, ranging from 10 to 14 inches tall.
Cavapoos are an active, high-energy breed of dog, requiring an hour or more of exercise every day. Depending on the individual dog, their exercise needs can vary. Generally, they need plenty of daily activities like walking, jogging, playing fetch or any other activities you can do with a dog. Additionally, Cavapoos may benefit from agility training and mental stimulation throughout the day for enrichment. If you cannot provide enough exercise and activity for your Cavapoo, their behavior can become destructive (e.g. chewing, digging, barking).
Absolutely. Cavapoos are friendly, smart, and loyal dogs that make excellent pets for first-time owners. They are eager to please, which makes them easily trainable, and they love to be involved in activities with their families. Their small size means they don't need much exercise but will still be happy to take a long walk or play with the family in the yard. Cavapoos are also hypoallergenic, so if you suffer from allergies, these pups may be the ideal fit for you and your family.
Training your Cavapoo is all about consistency and repetition. Ideally, it's best to teach your pup basic commands like 'sit', 'stay', and 'come' at least once a day. This will build trust and communication between you and your pup, as well as help them become obedient. Be sure to reward with verbal acknowledgement and treats whenever your pup follows your commands. You should also work on housebreaking and simple behaviors like going to their bed or dropping an item. Use treats and rewards to reinforce positive behaviors.
