Questions & Answers
Cavapoos are a popular "designer dog" breed that is a mix between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. They are extremely intelligent, easy to train, and great with children and other house pets. Cavapoos are affectionate, loyal, and quite low maintenance because they don't require extensive exercise or grooming. They are also low shedding and adaptable to small living spaces. Cavapoos can range in size from Toy to Miniature, with various coat colors and a lifespan of about 13-15 years.
Cavapoos, also known as a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel-Poodle mix, are considered a hypoallergenic breed. This means they generally produce fewer allergens than other breeds. The coat of a Cavapoo can be wavy, curly, or somewhere in between and because Poodles do not shed a great deal, many people find that a Cavapoo puppy or adult has little to no shedding. However, different dogs may have allergies to different things, so there will always be a chance of a reaction to something if it is present.
Feeding a Cavapoo can be difficult since their nutritional needs vary depending on their age, size, and activity level. Generally, an adult Cavapoo should receive about one and a half to two cups of food per day, and try to divide that into two meals. The best diet for any dog is one that is complete and balanced, so look for a food that is formulated for small dogs and contains no fillers like corn, wheat, or soy.
Cavapoos can require special consideration, as they can suffer from separation anxiety and need to be exercised daily. They are known to get along with children, but may not tolerate rough play. They should also receive regular brushing to keep their fur in check. Keeping them at a healthy weight and providing them with mental stimulation will also contribute to their overall wellbeing. Additionally, as Cavapoos are the result of a hybrid breed, they may be more prone to health issues, such as ear infections, patella luxation, and hip dysplasia.
Cavapoos come in a variety of sizes, from tiny to large, depending on the breeding parents. Toy Cavapoos can be as small as 4 to 8 pounds, while larger Cavapoos can grow to around 20 pounds or more. Mini Cavapoos typically range from 10 to 18 pounds, and Standard Cavapoos generally weigh around 18 to 25 pounds. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to Cavapoos as they can range slightly or considerably in size depending on their breeding.
Cavapoos are known to be fairly active dogs. They require daily exercise to optimize their physical and mental health, as well as to successfully eliminate built-up energy. They enjoy outdoor activities including games of fetch, long walks, and hikes, as they are quite agile and quickly learn new behaviors. Just as important as being physically active, Cavapoos require mental exercise to keep them engaged and entertained. Engaging in games like hide and seek or simply teaching them new tricks are sure to fill their need for stimulation.
Cavapoos are an incredibly amicable breed of dog, and as such, they make excellent companions for kids. They are gentle, intelligent, and affectionate, and their size and low shedding coat make them an easy fit in almost any home. Cavapoos are especially suited to families with children, as they provide much of the same love and devotion as a larger breed, but with much smaller size and lower exercise requirements. Additionally, due to their high intelligence, Cavapoos are easy to train, making it easier for kids to safely interact with them.
The amount of time needed to train a Cavapoo each day depends on their current skill level. Cavapoos are very intelligent and learn quickly, so those with a head start in training may only require 10-15 minutes per day. However, some Cavapoos may require more training time due to a lack of prior socialization. In that case, you may need to spend 30-60 minutes a day to help your pup learn consistently. You can also break the training sessions into shorter, more frequent segments to maximize your Cavapoo's development.
