Questions & Answers
Cavapoos are a hybrid breed made up of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. They have become increasingly popular in recent years due to their hypoallergenic coats, their affectionate and loyal temperaments, and their size. Cavapoos usually weigh between 10 and 20 pounds and can range in height from 10 to 17 inches. They tend to thrive in homes with families where they can get lots of love and attention. They are generally very smart and eager to please, making them easy to train.
The Cavapoo coat is typically curly, soft, and dense in texture. It's often compared to a lion's mane in both its colors and fluffiness. A Cavapoo's coat can be described as thick and wavy, and it can vary greatly in color depending on its parent breed. With Cavapoos being a mix of the Poodle and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, these dogs often boast a unique patchwork of colors like black, white, red, silver, apricot, and even blue.
Cavapoos are generally healthy with a few minor health issues that may arise. However, they do not have any particular dietary needs that are unique to their breed. Generally, a balanced diet including lean protein, vegetables, and healthy fats should be sufficient to meet their dietary needs and support their overall health. Additionally, puppies may need an additional calcium supplement to help with bone development, and some adult dogs may need a higher-protein diet if they are an active breed. It is best to talk to your veterinarian in order to determine the best meal plan for your individual Cavapoo.
To properly prepare your home for your new Cavapoo, it's important to create an environment that will be comfortable for them. Begin by outfitting their designated space with a bed, toys, and a few treats; having them arrive to a furnished area will give them a sense of safety and security. Along with having the necessary items, make sure to do your best to puppy-proof your home before they arrive by removing any cords, wires, or small items that can be easily chewed.
Cavapoos, or Cavoodle-Poodles, are a mix between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Miniature or Toy Poodle. These two purebreds are both relatively small breeds, with the Cavalier weighing between 10 and 18 pounds while the Poodle typically weighs 4-6 pounds, or 10-15 pounds for a Toy. Therefore, Cavapoos generally fall into the small breed category.
The recommended amount of exercise your Cavapoo needs depends on your pup's age and energy level. Generally, you should aim to give your Cavapoo at least 30-60 minutes of exercise per day. Depending on your pup's overall health, it's best to split this into two to three walks per day. Before you begin your walk, be sure to warm your pup up with a few minutes of active play like running, tugging or fetch to ensure they stay active and don't become injured.
Cavapoos are fantastic with kids! A Cavapoo is a crossbreed between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle, and this designer breed typically inherits a gentle, friendly and playful personality. Cavapoos are devoted and loyal companions who enjoy the company of their human family, and do well with kids of all ages. They are particularly loving towards their owners, so are usually excellent with children. In addition to being affectionate, they are also very good at learning commands and can be trained relatively easily.
Training your Cavapoo can be a rewarding and enjoyable experience! It's important to remain consistent, and use positive reinforcement (treats, verbal praises, etc.) to encourage desired behavior. Start by teaching your Cavapoo basic commands, such as sit, stay, come, and leave it. You can use a clicker and treats to reinforce the commands each time your pet follows them. With regular practice, your Cavapoo should soon begin to recognize the commands. Once your pet is comfortable with basic commands, you can move onto more advanced activities such as agility or scent training.
