Questions & Answers
Cavapoos are considered a designer crossbreed of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. They have a medium-sized body, a square-shaped muzzle, floppy ears, and long tail. They are classed as companion dogs because of their affectionate and loyal natures. Cavapoos make great family pets with a friendly, outgoing, and loving personality. They get along well with other dogs and cats, plus they are relatively quiet and tend to bark only when necessary. They are intelligent and active, making them trainable.
The Cavapoo has a unique coat that can vary greatly between each individual. In general, their coats are considered to be quite soft and can range from wavy and slightly shaggy to straight and smooth. They come in a wide array of colors, usually shades of tan, red, cream, and black. Some Cavapoos may also sport a unique or merle coloring that gives them an eye-catching look. Despite how it may looks, the Cavapoo coat doesn't require a great deal of maintenance and can be kept looking its best with brushing about twice a week.
Cavapoos are typically active, healthy, and relatively low-maintenance dogs. To ensure that your Cavapoo receives the nutrition necessary for a long and healthy life, it is important to feed them a balanced and nutritious diet. A Cavapoo's diet should include high-quality dog food with meat as the first ingredient. It is important to provide them with a balanced mix of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. In addition to providing a well-rounded diet, foods packed with vitamins, minerals, and probiotics are beneficial for their overall health.
Cavapoos do require special care since they are a combination of two different breeds of dogs. Most Cavapoos need a clip every four to six weeks, and a brush almost every day to detangle their fur and prevent matting. Additionally, they need to be exercised regularly to ensure their overall health. Since they tend to be smaller dogs, they do not need to be taken for long hikes; however, at least one 30 minute walk a day would be beneficial.
Cavapoos are typically considered a small to medium-sized dog breed; they usually range from 10 to 20 pounds when fully grown. Their height can range from 9 to 14 inches at the shoulder. Cavapoos generally reach their adult size by the time they are around 10 to 14 months old. Some may grow a bit more after that, but most reach maturity at this age. Cavapoos are usually the size of an average house cat when young and can easily fit in a carrier. With regular trips to the vet, they should stay healthy and of a manageable size.
Cavapoos are an active breed that make excellent exercise partners. They have an outgoing, energetic personality and have an innate desire to learn. Since they are highly intelligent, they pick up new activities and games quickly, and need a lot of activities to channel their energy. Cavapoos are known to love activities like jogging, walking, playing fetch, as well as agility training and obstacle courses. It's important to include physical exercise and mental stimulation in their daily routine, as they need both for a healthy lifestyle. If properly exercised, they can be very calm and relaxed at home.
Cavapoos are excellent companions around kids, as they are friendly, loving and loyal. They have a lot of patience and offer unconditional love. Cavapoos are known to be gentle, cuddly and affectionate, which makes them a great breed for children. Even after vigorous play, Cavapoos are typically docile and laid back, which can make it enjoyable for parents to be around. Due to their eagerness to please and calm temperaments, Cavapoos have an extroverted, obedient and gentle nature, which allows them to get along with kids of all ages.
The amount of training minutes per day that you need to give your Cavapoo depends on their age and prior level of training. Generally speaking, a young Cavapoo pup (under 6 months of age) should receive anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes of training per day. For an older Cavapoo, however, or one that is already partially trained, 20 to 30 minutes per day of additional training should be sufficient. To help ensure that your Cavapoo gets the best possible training experience, it is also important that time spent training is fun and positive.
