Questions & Answers
Cavapoos are becoming increasingly popular as a breed of choice for pet owners due to their intelligence, friendly, and effortlessly tolerant personality. Cavapoos are curious and lively, often inheriting the intelligence and trainability of the parent poodle. Additionally, they have a combination of both the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle's hypoallergenic coat, which means Cavapoos don't need much grooming. A fun fact about Cavapoos is that they have been nicknamed 'Velcro dogs' due to the tendency to stick close by their owner's side.
Cavapoos are considered to be hypoallergenic dogs, meaning that they are recognized for having a low-shedding coat, which reduces the amount of pet dander in the air as compared to other breeds. The breed is considered to have a non-shedding coat, which is formed by both the Poodle and Cocker Spaniel genes in the mix. Cavapoos can have a long, curly or wavy coat, although the popular clipped coat means that they often require less grooming and brushing than other hypoallergenic breeds.
Cavapoos are generally considered to be very healthy breeds that thrive on a balanced diet. Their diet should include high-quality proteins such as beef, lamb, and fish, along with grains, vegetables, and fruits. Additionally, Cavapoos need adequate amounts of carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins, and water. They should also be given supplements, such as omega-3 fatty acids, to ensure their coat and skin stay healthy. Furthermore, since Cavapoos are highly active dogs, they may require additional nutrients such as calcium, phosphorus, and vitamins and minerals to ensure proper development and health.
Before getting a Cavapoo, you should make sure to have all the necessary essentials. These include a good quality food and water bowl, a comfy and supportive bed, toys, a grooming brush, a nail clipper, treats, ID tags, a leash, and a collar. You should also invest in some training and health products, such as a crate, a good health insurance plan, and an obedience or agility class to help your pup learn socialization as well as the basic commands.
Cavapoos are generally recognized as being small-to-medium sized dogs, since most adult Cavapoos typically weigh only 10 to 25 pounds. Cavapoos can attain a height of 8 to 15 inches at the shoulder, making them taller than some smaller breeds such as Chihuahuas, but much smaller than many “big” canines. Cavapoos come in a variety of sizes and can range from Toy to Mini or even Standard sizes, depending upon their parent breed size.
It is recommended to walk your Cavapoo for at least 30 minutes each day. This amount of exercise, combined with a balanced diet, will ensure your pup remains healthy and happy. If you can, it's best to increase the time to an hour a day, depending on the age and physical fitness level of your pet. Take your Cavapoo for a walk, jogging, or if your pup has energy to burn, take a swim. Spend quality time with your 4-legged friend, socializing with other pet owners and other dogs, or in the dog park.
Yes, Cavapoos often get along excellently with kids! This is mainly because of their friendly, affectionate personalities. Cavapoos typically make highly devoted family members, and they enjoy playing with children. They tend to be patient and gentle, making them a great companion for a younger family member. The problem may arise, however, if the Cavapoo has not been well-socialized at a young age. If the Cavapoo has not been exposed to children, they might become anxious or even fearful at first.
The exact time you need to spend training your Cavapoo every day depends on your specific situation, such as the age and temperament of your Cavapoo. Generally, aim for at least 15 minutes per day. During that time, you should focus on basic obedience commands or activities that promote positive reinforcement. You may gradually increase the amount of time you spend as your Cavapoo progresses in its training. For instance, interactive activities like agility courses can demand more energy and require longer training sessions.
