Questions & Answers
Cavapoos are a designer dog breed, which is a mix of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. They are a small-medium sized dog and generally retain the intelligence and low-shedding coat of the poodle, while having the sweet, gentle temperament of the Cavalier. Since Cavapoos are a mix, it is possible for individual puppies to differ quite a bit in their size, color, and fur texture, however it is common for them to be adaptable to their environment, and often quite affectionate and loving.
Cavapoos are highly sought after for their generally non-shedding coats. Because of the combination of their parent breeds, the Cavapoo can inherit the soft, hypoallergenic coat of its Poodle parent and the low-shedding attributes of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel parent. Generally, Cavapoos have coats that do not shed or have little shedding. However, it is important to note that not every Cavapoo will be completely non-shedding, as some may express moderate shedding of their coat.
Cavapoos are a breed of dog known for their intelligence and adaptability, so they can benefit from a range of varied and nutritious diets. Generally speaking, most Cavapoos should be fed high-quality dry food that has been specially formulated with their size in mind. Added wet food is also appreciated, but it is important to note that wet food has a higher fat content and should thus only be provided in moderation. Treats should also be included in a Cavapoo's diet in moderation as treats can sometimes contain too much sugar or too much fat.
Cavapoos are an active and intelligent breed, so they need lots of mental stimulation. Exercise alone is not enough. Finding ways to keep them stimulated is important for any Cavapoo owner. They require regular interaction with their owners through activities such as training, playtime, grooming and walks. Having an engaging and stimulating home environment and a balanced diet will also help keep your Cavapoo happy and healthy. Additionally, your Cavapoo might benefit from regular trips to the groomer and the veterinarian for check-ups.
Cavapoos are considered small dogs, generally ranging in size from 10 to 20 pounds. However, depending on the size of the Poodle parent (standard, miniature, or toy) this can vary. Nonetheless, Cavapoos are typically still classified as a small, companion-size dog, and are not the same size as larger breeds such as Golden Retrievers or Bernese Mountain Dogs. Cavapoos are predisposed to less health and behavior issues that many big dogs are, but are also easier to care for and can more readily fit in smaller living spaces.
A Cavapoo is an intelligent and energetic breed of small dog, so it's important to make sure they receive adequate physical activity each day. Generally speaking, it's recommended that a Cavapoo exercises for about 30-60 minutes every day, divided up into two or three separate sessions. This could include a long walk, a game of fetch in the yard, or just some quality time at the dog park. Exercising your Cavapoo for more than an hour a day can be too taxing for the breed, so you shouldn't exceed that total time limit.
Cavapoos are a great choice for a family dog. They are loyal and loving animals that often form strong bonds with their owners, making them a great choice for people of any age. Cavapoos are intelligent, playful pups that make for great companions, and a well-trained Cavapoo can also be great around other pets and children. They are also generally low-shedding and hypoallergenic, making them an ideal match for households with people who suffer from allergies. With proper socialization and care, Cavapoos can make wonderful additions to any family!
Training a Cavapoo can be easy depending on the individual pup, as all dogs are different and therefore have different personalities. Generally, Cavapoos are very people-focused pups and, with consistency and patience, they can learn quickly. It is important to start the training around 8 weeks old, as the earlier the pup is introduced to a basic routine and expectations, the easier it is to develop a strong bond that encourages the pup to learn. Also, as a result of their intelligence, they tend to pick up commands more easily than other breeds.
