Questions & Answers
Cavapoos are small, lovable dogs that have become popular in recent years. They are a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle, and typically have a just an irresistibly cute and friendly demeanor! Cavapoos have relatively short and low-maintenance coats, which makes grooming easier and only requires brushing a few times a week. They can also easily adapt to different climates and environments.
The Cavapoo's coat can vary greatly depending on their breeding, but it is generally thick, soft and curly. Average coats are generally described as low-shed and considered hypoallergenic. Because of their cross-breed nature, the coats can come in a variety of colors, often limited to shades of whites, creams, reds, apricots and coffee. One of the most attractive features of the Cavapoo's coat is its natural wave or curl and texture, which can stay quite soft and silky upon proper grooming and maintenance.
Cavapoos may have different dietary needs depending on certain factors such as their age, size, activity level, and any underlying health conditions. Generally speaking, Cavapoos are considered a small breed, so they will require a high-protein diet with specified portion sizes to ensure they get the right amount of nutrients. Depending on their age, Cavapoos may need food with added vitamins and minerals. If your Cavapoo has food allergies or an underlying health condition, such as diabetes, your veterinarian may suggest a special diet.
Before getting a Cavapoo, it's important to have the essentials ready. First and foremost, you'll need a food and water bowl plus a high-quality dry food to meet the pup's nutritional needs; a bed and blanket to provide a comfortable sleeping spot; a collar with an ID tag; a leash and harness so you can take your pup out for walks; and a few chew toys to keep them from chewing on your furniture.
Cavapoos can come in a variety of sizes, ranging from toy-sized to large. Toy-sized Cavapoos typically weigh around 7 to 14 pounds and stand at 9 to 10 inches tall. Miniature Cavapoos, on the other hand, can weigh as much as 18 to 25 pounds with a height of 12 to 14 inches. Finally, the larger Cavapoos are the standard size, with an average weight of 25 to 45 pounds and a height of 14 to 15 inches.
The amount of time it's recommended to walk your Cavapoo each day will depend on your particular pup's age, size and exercise needs. As a breed, Cavapoos generally require at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day. An adult Cavapoo may need as much as 60 minutes per day of exercise, while a puppy may need a bit less. Regardless of their age, it's important to provide your Cavapoo with plenty of exercise and physical activity every day.
Cavapoos are often referred to as companion dogs due to their friendly and loyal personalities and have a natural affinity towards children. Cavapoos are gentle, affectionate, and adaptable – making them great playmates for both young and old. Cavapoos can be trained to add an extra layer of safety to interactions with kids. They tend to be quite gentle, well-behaved, and patient with children, as long as the kids are taught to respect them by handling them appropriately.
Training a Cavapoo may not necessarily be an easy task; however, they are known for being very intelligent and eager to please their owners. With consistency and patience, a Cavapoo can learn basic commands and a variety of behaviours such as not barking unnecessarily, elimination in one spot, walking on a leash and coming when called. Taking the time to socialize your pup is also important, and can help them become confident and trusting in a variety of unfamiliar situations.
