Questions & Answers
Cavapoos are a hybrid breed of dog that are created as a mix between a Toy or Miniature Poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Cavapoos are known for their intelligent, friendly, and playful personalities. Unlike other hybrid breeds, Cavapoos are often bred with the intention of providing a hypoallergenic coat for those with pet allergies. In addition, the Poodle half of the equation helps to make these dogs relatively low shedding as well. Cavapoos tend to be relatively easy to train and respond very well to positive reinforcement.
Cavapoos are considered to be a “hypoallergenic” breed of dog, meaning that their coats are less prone to causing allergic reactions than most other types of dogs. While these dogs do produce some dander, they are less likely to cause allergic reactions than other types of dogs due to their low-shedding coats. To make matters even better, Cavapoos are known to have a pleasant, low odor compared to other breeds.
Cavapoos, as with all dogs, can be prone to sensitivities and aversions to certain foods. As such, it is important to know what not to feed them. One of the best ways to do this is to consult with your veterinarian and ask what foods are safe for your dog. Additionally, it is important keep in mind to avoid foods that are high in fat, contain high levels of artificial colorings, flavorings or preservatives, and foods that contain certain types of grains and sugars. Additionally, it is important to avoid foods with xylitol or other common sweeteners.
Becoming the best puppy parent while you're waiting for your Cavapoo can be made easier by researching as much as possible about their breed. This can help equip you with the knowledge necessary to create an environment that's best for your new pup. Start by gathering supplies for their arrival, such as proper food, bowls, a bed, treats, and a collar. Then, designate a space for your new pet – this will help them feel comfortable when they arrive, while also marking a territory for them to feel safe.
Cavapoos are usually a small to medium breed, depending on what type of Poodle was used for the crossbreeding. On average, a fully grown Cavapoo will measure between 12 and 18 inches tall at the shoulder, and usually weigh anywhere between 8 to 20 pounds. The size of a Cavapoo mainly depends on the size of its lineage—in other words, a Cavapoo that comes from a Toy Poodle parent will typically have a smaller stature than a Cavapoo that comes from a Standard Poodle.
Generally speaking you can take your Cavapoo running, however, keep in mind that they are a relatively small breed and may not be able to keep up with strenuous physical activity or have the stamina of a larger breed. Before you take your pup out on a run, it’s important to ensure they are physically able to handle the exercise and they have reached an age where it is appropriate. Speak to your veterinarian or an experienced dog trainer to get an idea of what activity level is appropriate for your specific Cavapoo.
Cavapoos are a great breed for first-time owners. They are intelligent, loyal, and affectionate, which makes them easy to train. Cavapoos are also very versatile and can be a great fit for busy and active households. They generally have a low-to-moderate energy level, so they won't require a lot of exercise or a large yard to keep them entertained. Cavapoos also are known for their low-maintenance coats, which makes them easy to groom and take care of.
A Cavapoo's training needs will depend on their individual temperament and personality. Generally speaking, Cavapoos should receive roughly 10-15 minutes of training three to four times per day. This will help keep your pup sharp and focused. It's important to make sure that training time is kept interesting and engaging, that way learning processes are quicker and easier. Ensure that each training session is structured and reward based. Incorporating treats is an effective way to encourage your pup to focus throughout the session.
