Questions & Answers
Cavapoos are an increasingly popular breed of dog, resulting from a cross between a purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Miniature Poodle. These cute hybrid dogs typically have outgoing personalities and thrive in both family and social settings. They are very intelligent, and generally respond well to obedience training. In addition to their friendly disposition and loyalty, Cavapoos are also hypoallergenic, and shed very little.
Cavapoos, a designer breed created by crossing a Poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, are considered to be one of the most non-shedding breeds. This is due to their coat's texture, which can vary greatly depending on the ratio of Poodle genes to Spaniel genes. Generally, however, their coats are smoother than a purebred Poodle, with shorter guard hairs. This allows them to remain relatively clean and free from loose hairs. Even still, some individuals do exhibit slight shedding and will require regular brushing to reduce any potential shedding.
Cavapoos are a hybrid cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle, so their diet is composed of mostly foods that would cover both breeds. While the exact nutritional needs of a Cavapoo can vary depending on its size and activity level, a diet of high-quality, nutritionally balanced dry and wet dog food is generally best. Feeding your Cavapoo different proteins from various sources, supplemented with vegetables and fruits, can be beneficial to maintain balanced nutrition while still considering the individual needs of your furry friend.
Becoming the best puppy parent while waiting for your Cavapoo involves doing your research and preparing ahead of time. Start by becoming familiar with the breed's temperament, health requirements, exercise needs, and behaviors. Read up on the most up-to-date guidelines for raising a puppy, and begin putting together a plan for socialization, crate training, and even housebreaking. Set up a space for your puppy that is safe and comfortable, and get toys and treats that will engage and entertain him. Also, find a trusted veterinarian who can provide regular checkups and vaccinations.
Cavapoos come in a variety of sizes, and the actual size of your Cavapoo will depend on the size of its parents. The three sizes typically seen in Cavapoos are Toy, Miniature, and Standard. Toy Cavapoos are usually between 5-13 inches in height at the shoulder and can weigh anywhere from 6-20 pounds. Miniature Cavapoos stand from 12-14 inches at the shoulder and can weigh anywhere from 13-17 pounds. Finally, Standard Cavapoos are the largest, usually standing at more than 14 inches and weighing more than 18 pounds.
It depends on the age and physical condition of your Cavapoo, however, as a general rule of thumb, we recommend setting aside at least 30 minutes of walking time per day for your pup. You should also try to add some sort of cardiovascular exercise at least three times per week such as playing fetch, running in an open area, or going on a walk with some hills. If your pup is still a puppy, you may want to modify their exercise routine and stick to shorter walks with more frequent breaks as their bodies are still developing.
Cavapoos make excellent pets for first-time owners! They are highly intelligent and eager to please, making them eager to learn and follow instructions. Cavapoos also tend to get along well with everyone they meet, from other animals to children. Their gentle, loving temperament makes them a great companion and a loving addition to any family. They are considered low-shedding, so they won't leave fur everywhere and they require minimal grooming.
Training your Cavapoo is far easier than you may think! The key to having a well-behaved pup is consistency and positive reinforcement. First, establish house rules, such as no begging or chewing furniture, and develop an effective routine. Start with basic obedience training, such as sit, stay, and come when called. Make sure you reward your pup for good behavior with treats or a favorite toy. As your Cavapoo gets older, you can start teaching tricks such as roll over or shake.
