Questions & Answers
Cavapoos, also known as Cavadoodles, are designer hybrids between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Toy or Miniature Poodle. These intelligent, friendly and playful dogs make wonderful family pets since they love being around people. Cavapoos are usually eager to please and learn quickly, making them easy to train. They can also live happily in either apartments or houses, since they don’t require much exercise and are content with a few short walks or romps in the backyard each day.
The Cavapoo coat is a blend of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Poodle's coat, and can vary in length and texture depending on what type of coat the parents have. Generally, Cavapoos have thick, soft coats that either remain silky straight or become slightly wavy as they age, and their coats can vary from wiry to curly. Typically, Cavapoos come in a variety of colors ranging from white to black, and even cream, tan, and gray depending on the parents' colors.
Knowing what not to feed your Cavapoo is important for their overall health and wellbeing. You should always consult with your veterinarian for dietary advice specific to your cavapoo's needs. Generally, human food should be avoided for your Cavapoo as it can lead to nutritional deficiencies, and can be high in salt, fat, and sugar. Foods such as chocolate, grapes, nuts, and other toxic foods should never be given. Rawhide chews should also be avoided, as they can lead to choking and intestinal blockage.
Cavapoos, a hybrid dog breed, do have unique requirements which may differ from other breeds. They don't do well in a kennel-like environment and prefer the comfort of their own home, so waiting to pick them up isn’t particularly recommended. Being an active hybrid, Cavapoos need lots of exercise and can be taken on daily walks and runs in fenced areas. They also require professional grooming every 6-8 weeks, which includes nail trimming, cleaning around the eyes, and brushing daily.
Cavapoos typically reach a mature weight between 10 25 pounds, depending on the size of their parents. Toy Cavapoos reach the lower end, while larger ones may closer to 25. It's important to note that Cavapoos are technically a hybrid breed, so growth rates and adult size can vary. Generally, Cavapoos reach full adult size between 12 18 months of age, and some may take even longer. When you're looking for a Cavapoo, be sure to research the size of both the mother and father to get an idea of their adult size.
Generally, it's recommended for Cavapoos to get at least 30 minutes of exercise per day. This can include walking, running, or playing fetch. When walking your Cavapoo, aim for at least 10-15 minutes a day. This may vary depending on the health of your pooch, age, and physical condition. To stay healthy, your Cavapoo needs regular, daily exercise. It's also important to keep in mind that high-energy, playful breeds may require more than 10-15 minutes per day.
Generally, Cavapoos get along quite well with children! These friendly pooches have a flair for adapting to different environments and personalities. They tend to be gentle and patient with children, happy to spend time playing and cuddling. Cavapoos often become like another family member forming strong bonds with the whole family, particularly young kids. It is important to note, however, that any dog should be closely supervised when interacting with children, and that children be taught proper doggy etiquette.
Training a Cavapoo can be easy depending on the animal's personality and the patience and dedication of the trainer. Cavapoos are an intelligent breed, so the process can go faster than with some other breeds. Establishing a routine is key when training a Cavapoo. Deciding on the objectives of the training and the rules that a Cavapoo should follow in your household will help in the teaching process. Through positive reinforcement, consistency, and understanding, a Cavapoo can be successfully trained. Every Cavapoo is unique, so some may learn faster than others.
