Questions & Answers
Cavapoos are a hybrid breed of dog created by crossing a Poodle with a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, making them an incredibly unique breed. They often have an endearing mix of the intelligence of a Poodle and the easy-going nature of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Cavapoos also boast an array of adorable Teddy Bear-like features such as their big eyes, big floppy ears, and their thick, curly hair. But they aren't just cuties; Cavapoos also love playing fetch and are very quick learners.
Allergies are caused by an individual's sensitivity to irritants, which vary from person to person. Therefore, it's impossible to definitively say that owning a Cavapoo will cause allergies. However, Cavapoos, like other breeds, do have some amount of dander which can be an irritant for people with allergies. To determine whether owning a Cavapoo may cause or worsen a person's allergies, it's best to consult a qualified medical professional.
Your Cavapoo will need high-quality dog food that is formulated specifically for small breeds. Look for kibble that contains real meat as its first ingredient and includes carbohydrates, essential fatty acids, and other key vitamins and minerals. When selecting a food, make sure it is age-appropriate for your pup as puppies and adults have different nutritional needs. If you have dietary concerns or questions, reach out to your vet for guidance. You should also complement your Cavapoo's diet with healthy treats and snacks that are designed for their size.
Cavapoos can be sensitive and require positive reinforcement-based training. Such training should start from a young age and involve consistent reinforcement of the behaviors you value from your pet. Along with behavior, having your pet on a healthy and balanced diet is also important and should include a formulated meal plan of lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Exercise is also essential for Cavapoos, typically two sessions of fifteen minutes a day. For those owners with an active lifestyle, providing long and diverse walks or runs with your pet will also do marvels.
Cavapoos come in an array of sizes, the most common of which is the "Toy" size. Toy Cavapoos are between 8-14 inches in height and 5-18 pounds in weight. There is also the "Miniature" size, typically standing at 15-17 inches tall and weighing about 18-25 pounds. A third option is the "Standard" size, which typically stands at 18-20 inches tall and weighs 25-35 pounds.
Cavapoos are known to be highly active dogs. They have an exuberant spirit and a strong desire to play and exercise. They need to be taken on regular walks and given plenty of stimulating activities. These friendly and loving dogs make wonderful companions and need plenty of love and attention, which in turn results in plenty of activity. Cavapoos also need to be well-exercised to keep them from getting bored and destructive. When it comes to playtime, these social and lively pups love to romp around and fetch with their humans.
Cavapoos are an excellent family pet and are known for their sociability and desire to please; they are often recommended as a great companion dog for children. They are loyal, affectionate, and patient when it comes to interacting with kids, and their loving and innocent nature make them an ideal addition to a family with children. Cavapoos tend to be small in size, yet are still quite active dogs that like to play and can provide hours of companionship for children. They are also known for their low-shedding coat, which can make them easier to maintain around kids with allergies.
Training Cavapoos should be fun for both you and your pet! The amount of time you should dedicate to training per day is based on your pup's age and your goals. Generally, you should set aside at least 15-25 minutes each day for play-based training that uses positive reinforcement, as this will help your pup learn faster. If you have more ambitious goals, such as specific behaviors or obedience commands, you may need to extend your training session to 30 minutes or more. Regardless of how long you spend, consistency is key.
