Questions & Answers
Cavapoos are an incredibly interesting breed of dog as they are the result of a very unique mating process. Cavapoos are a cross-breed between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. This special breeding results in a unique combination of traits from both breeds, including the Poodle's intelligence which is combined with the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel's friendly personality. Cavapoos are very friendly and loyal pet companions and can be easily trained.
Cavapoos, a hybrid between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle, are often touted as hypoallergenic due to their low-shedding and poodle-like curliness. While Cavapoos may trigger fewer allergic reactions than other breeds, that doesn't mean they are completely allergen-free. Most pets, regardless of breed, share a common allergen, Fel d1, that can cause a range of symptoms from sneezing to hives.
Cavapoos are very energetic, with a voracious appetite. Unfortunately, some human foods can cause health issues, including gastrointestinal upset, organ failure, or growth and development problems. To ensure the health and safety of your Cavapoo, you should consult with your veterinarian about what to feed them and/or get your information from reputable sources. Read the warning labels on any potential food items to be sure they do not contain harmful ingredients.
Before getting a Cavapoo, you should make sure you have all the essentials for caring for the pup. Start by stocking up on appropriate food and treats, as well as food and water dishes. While Cavapoos can be prone to dental problems, brushing your pup's teeth daily will help keep their gums and teeth healthy, so consider getting a toothbrush and toothpaste. Having toys to keep your pup entertained is also important, so make sure you have a few chew toys, stuffed animals, and puzzle toys on hand.
Cavapoos are small-to-medium-sized dogs, so they typically don't fit the definition of "big" dogs. Generally, they weigh between 10 and 25 pounds and are 12–15 inches tall when fully grown, so they are on the smaller side of the canine spectrum. However, depending upon their parent breeds a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle – they can come in different sizes. A Cavapoo bred from a Toy Poodle rather than a Standard Poodle may be smaller than those bred from larger poodles.
Every dog breed is different, so it's important to consider your Cavapoo's specific individual needs in order to determine how much time it should spend walking per day. Generally speaking, however, it is recommended that you give your Cavapoo at least 30 minutes of exercise each day, preferably broken up into several smaller walks of around 10 to 15 minutes each. Keep in mind that longer walks are always welcomed by your pup — just make sure it's not excessive or your pet might become over-exerted. Additionally, it's important to provide mental stimulation as well as physical exercise.
Cavapoos are an excellent choice if you are looking for a family dog. They are a hybrid breed that combines the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Poodle, merging their unique characteristics of love, loyalty, intelligence and friendliness. Cavapoos are highly sociable and they thrive in family environments. As such, they are often eager to please their families and provide entertainment. Cavapoos are very active and require ample daily exercise, which makes them ideal companions for active families.
Training a Cavapoo can be relatively easy by setting up and maintaining consistency in their routine. Cavapoos are typically eager to please their owners so providing consistent direction will help with their behavioral training. An important aspect of training is to socialize them starting when they're puppies. Introduce them to different people, places, and other animals so they don't become overwhelmed or anxious. Start with short walks, a few simple commands like Sit and Stay, and offering positively reinforced treats. It's also important to monitor their environment, as many have a tendency to be easily distracted.
