Questions & Answers
Cavapoos, which are sometimes referred to as Cavoodles or Cavpoo, are mixed breed dogs. They are a combination of two purebred dogs, specifically the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Poodle. As mixed breed dogs, Cavapoos can vary in size and appearance, as different crosses can yield different sizes and types of Cavapoos.
Whether or not Cavapoos will cause allergies depends. Cavapoos are known as a hypoallergenic breed, but that does not mean people who are usually sensitive to allergens will not have a reaction when exposed to a Cavapoo. It is possible that Cavapoos could cause an allergic reaction in some individuals; however, it is more likely that allergens like pollen, dust mites, or other pet dander (rather than the Cavapoo itself) will leave someone sensitive to allergens feeling symptomatic.
Cavapoos are relatively easy to feed because they are omnivores and therefore eat a wide variety of foods. A healthy diet for a Cavapoo typically consists of a meat-based protein, carbohydrates such as sweet potato or oatmeal, and an ample amount of vegetables and/or fruits. A balanced diet can be created by combining wet, dry, and a cooked-food diet. Many pet owners have found it easiest to opt for a complete kibble diet that supplies all necessary nutrients in an appropriate ratio.
Before you take the exciting step of getting a Cavapoo, there are a few essential items you should have already on hand. Some basics include a well-built, safe, and spacious crate with a comfortable bed, a collar and leash so you can start leash training, puppy toys for teething and playtime, and educational books for potty training: though Cavapoos are notoriously easy to potty train. You'll also need meal bowls, grooming tools, and pee pads for accidents.
Cavapoos come in a variety of sizes ranging from Toy, Miniature, and Standard. The Toy size averages between 5-12 pounds and stands about 8-12 inches tall. The Miniature Cavapoo consistently weighs between 11-17 pounds and stands between 12-14 inches high. The Standard size Cavapoo is the largest of the group and can typically reach between 25-35 pounds and stands between 12-17 inches tall. The size of a Cavapoo will vary based on the size of the parents.
Cavapoos are a designer breed that is a cross between the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Poodle; as they originate from two breeds that both enjoy water, it is safe to say that Cavapoos generally like to swim. They often have a natural ability to do so, thanks in part to their webbed feet, and a lot of Cavapoos enjoy playing fetch in the water and going for a swim.
Cavapoos are excellent family dogs! These loyal and loving pooches make wonderful companions for people of all ages. Their small size makes them ideal for living in small homes or apartments while their typical temperament ensures they fit into most family dynamics with ease. Cavapoos are also an intelligent breed who are eager to learn, making them highly trainable and a delight to have around. Additionally, they have moderate energy levels and require only a moderate amount of exercise, making them an ideal choice if a fast-paced, high-energy lifestyle isn’t your thing.
The amount of time you need to train your Cavapoo will depend on the age of your pup and the desired level of obedience. Generally speaking, Cavapoos do best with at least 15 minutes of training per day. If you want more frequent and intensive training, you may need to increase that to 30-60 minutes per day, spaced out during the day. Setting aside time for a daily training session—as well as scheduled playtime, walks, and physical and mentally stimulating activities—will be important.
