Questions & Answers
Cockapoos, also known as Spoodles, are a crossbreed of a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, resulting in an incredibly smart, loyal, and loving companion. They're especially popular due to their grooming requirements; they either have an oil-free single layer coat, or a low-shedding hypoallergenic double coat, depending on the type of Cocker Spaniel and Poodle parent.
Cockapoos are generally considered to be hypoallergenic breeds, as they have a soft, non-shedding coat. This means they do not produce the same level of pet dander or proteins that create reactions in people with allergies. It is important to note, however, that Cockapoo puppies tend to go through an "adolescent shedding" stage during which they may require more regular grooming than usual. Even if a Cockapoo is hypoallergenic, it is still important to spend time with them in order to test for any allergies.
Cockapoos have dietary needs that are similar to other breeds of dogs, although it may take some trial and error to find the perfect balance for your Cockapoo. A diet rich in protein, fiber, and vitamins is essential to their health and growth. It's also important to feed your Cockapoo high-quality dog food and to always keep their food and water bowl free of contaminants. Supplements of glucosamine and chondroitin are often recommended to help support joint health and keep the Cockapoo's coat and skin healthy.
Before getting a Cockapoo, you should certainly have the essentials on hand to give them the best start possible in their new home. First and foremost, you will need to purchase food (kibble and/or wet food) and bowls. Additionally, your new furry friend will need other items such as a collar, harness, and leash; grooming items such as a brush and nail clippers; toys; bedding; and training treats.
Cockapoos are a designer breed, meaning they can vary in size depending on their lineage. Generally, they are considered a small to medium-sized breed and typically won't exceed 20 lbs in adulthood, though individual Cockapoos could grow beyond this size. A Cockapoo puppy may be as small as 8-10 inches at the shoulder, however some may be larger. Ultimately, it is impossible to definitively answer this question without seeing the puppy in person or knowing its background. It is best to speak with the breeder if you have questions about size.
Absolutely taking your Cockapoo running can be wonderfully beneficial for both of you. Before going on your first run, however, make sure you and your pup have taken the proper safety precautions. Start with a leisurely run and increase the distance and intensity of running gradually. Keep them hydrated and take regular breaks, as your pup can tire quickly. Additionally, be mindful of the environment and temperature don't run in extreme heat as your pup could overheat and it's important to be aware of potential hazards such as glass and sharp objects on the ground.
Cockapoos can make excellent companions for first-time owners. They are very intelligent, loving, and easily trainable, making them much easier to manage than some other breeds. Their size and energy level also means they don't require as much space and exercise as larger breeds. Even with basic obedience training and lots of love and attention, they can be very well-mannered around children, which makes them an ideal choice for families with young kids.
Absolutely! Cockapoos are known for being exceptionally intelligent and easily trainable dogs. They excel at learning commands and tricks, and are often faster at coming up with solutions due to their ability to think quickly and logically. Cockapoos also have the uncanny knack of being intuitive to their owners' needs and can thus surprise their owners with how well they can pick up on subtle cues. This intelligence lends itself well to Cockapoos being remarkable companions, able to understand their owner's instructions with ease, and provide a comforting presence.
