Questions & Answers
Cockapoos are an increasingly popular breed of designer dogs, created by crossing an American Cocker Spaniel with a Poodle. They tend to live longer than other pure breed dogs, often up to 15 years! Their coats come in almost any color imaginable, including black, white, cream, brown and multi-colored variations in between. Additionally, Cockapoos are hypoallergenic and do not shed, making them great family pets for those with allergies. They are highly intelligent and easy to train as well.
Cockapoos are considered a low-shedding breed; however, there may be some shedding. Many owners report that Cockapoos do not shed enough hair to be considered a non-shedding breed, but regular brushing and grooming can help keep shedding to a minimum. Although Cockapoos may not be as low-shedding as other breeds, they do have a softer and curlier coat than other breeds, which means they tend to carry and trap less loose hairs. This makes them a great pet to have if you don't want as much shedding as other breeds.
Cockapoos, as with many other dogs, should not be fed chocolate or any other type of candy. Additionally, any form of bones or cooked bones are a definite no-no, as they can easily splinter and cause harm to your pet. Dairy products should also be avoided, as they may contain lactose which can upset your pet's digestive system. Many human snacks that are high in fat can cause health issues for Cockapoos, such as obesity and pancreatitis. Fruits high in citric acid, like oranges and lemon, should also be avoided.
Preparing for a new Cockapoo can be a very exciting experience! One of the most important things you can do to make sure your Cockapoo is comfortable in their new environment is to create a safe space for them. Consider purchasing a comfortable bed, toys, and chew items that are safe for your pup. It's also essential to create a good feeding routine, provide them with ample amounts of exercise, and manage their overall health with regular checkups and routine vaccinations. Provide them with the proper socialization by taking them to meet other people and animals.
It is hard to know what size a Cockapoo puppy will grow to be because size, as with most breeds, can vary depending on genetics. A Cockapoo may reach anywhere from 8 to 18 pounds when fully grown. Some adults may even be more, while others may be smaller, so it is impossible to know the exact size your Cockapoo puppy will become. Generally, you can expect a Cockapoo to reach somewhere between the range of 8 and 18 pounds, but the size can not be accurately predicted.
Cockapoos love to play and exercise, so they need regular physical and mental stimulation to stay healthy and active. Depending on the particular age and health status of the Cockapoo, exercise requirements will vary. For example, it is recommended to schedule at least 30 minutes of physical activity per day for young Cockapoos. However, an older Cockapoo may require more moderate physical activity, such as daily walks. Also, simply playing fetch or going for a swim can be great forms of exercise for Cockapoos of all ages.
Generally, Cockapoos get along with other pets if they have had the proper socialization and are supervised. Cockapoos are very social dogs and do best when provided with some sort of companionship. Careful introduction to other animals in the home is the best way to ensure that your Cockapoo will adjust to having other pets as friends. Even if your Cockapoo initially seems hesitant with meeting new pets it is important to allow them some time to get to know one another, and learn how to play and interact with each other in a way that is safe and appropriate.
Cockapoos are generally known to be intelligent, friendly family dogs. They are usually eager to learn and many owners report that they can pick up commands and tricks more quickly than other breeds. With consistent and positive training and reinforcement, Cockapoos can be taught to follow basic commands and even perform top-level tricks. On top of that, they are loyal, affectionate, highly trainable, and highly sensitive to their owners. They tend to pay close attention to their owners, so they make great companions and pets.
