Questions & Answers
Cockapoos are one of the most popular designer breeds and they are a joy to have as a pet! They are very loyal, intelligent, and adaptable dogs that come in a variety of colors. Fun facts about Cockapoos include that they have hybrid vigor, meaning that they are often quite healthy and have fewer hereditary problems than their parent breeds. They are also incredibly friendly and are known to get along well with other animals, making them great family pets.
Although Cockapoos have a low to non-shedding coat, they are not typically hypoallergenic. Allergies are caused by dander, which Cockapoos produce like any other breed of dog. It is possible that some individuals may be allergic to the dander of a Cockapoo, however, it is important to note that all people have different levels of sensitivity when it comes to allergies. It is best to consult an allergist to find out if a Cockapoo will be compatible with your particular sensitivity level.
When it comes to Cockapoos, it is essential to be mindful of what you feed them. Foods with a high sugar content, such as cakes, cookies, candy, and ice cream, should all be avoided due to their negative impact on dental and overall health. Other human foods to avoid include anything that is overly processed, such as chips and other snacks, and foods that are high in sodium. Nuts and raw vegetables should also be avoided as they can cause intestinal blockages.
Before bringing your new Cockapoo home, it is important to ensure your house is properly prepared. First, make sure your house is puppy-proofed – use baby gates or closed doors to prevent your Cockapoo from entering potentially dangerous areas such as the bathroom or kitchen. Secondly, create a designated area for your pup at home such as an exercise pen or puppy playroom. Make sure this area is furnished with comfortable bedding and safe toys.
Cockapoos typically vary in size from small to medium, so while they are often considered big dogs due to their energetic and outgoing personalities, they are not usually considered large in comparison to other breeds. Most Cockapoos weigh between 12 to 24 pounds and have an average height of 14 to 18 inches, making them a great size for homes or apartments. Regardless of their size, they tend to be very loving and affectionate toward their owners and can make great companions.
It is recommended that a Cockapoo should be walked for at least 30 minutes every day to ensure proper exercise and mental stimulation. To further boost their physical and mental health, you should aim to provide more exercise each day. This could include an additional 20-30 minutes of playtime, providing your pup with a stimulating activity or toy that encourages interaction, and/or going on a longer and more frequent walk. The key is finding the right amount of activity to maintain your Cockapoo's overall wellbeing and build and strengthen the bond between the two of you.
Cockapoos are known to be excellent family pets, particularly for families with children. They tend to be incredibly gentle and loving, and are eager to please their owners. Cockapoos are usually patient and friendly with children, as well as being highly trainable and adaptable. They also benefit from their intelligence and obedience, thus making them a great companion for kids. Furthermore, their size means they can easily tag along and won’t be too overpowering.
Depending on the age and skill level of your Cockapoo, daily training can range from 5-20 minutes. It is important to start with small, manageable sessions and build up time gradually. Some activities may require more or less time daily and that's okay. If you make training fun and interesting, your Cockapoo will be engaged and the sessions can become longer. Keep in mind that physical exercise is important in addition to mental training, so aim for a balance of play and training to keep your Cockapoo healthy mentally and physically.
