Questions & Answers
Cockapoos are a designer breed that have been around since the 1960's! They are designer dogs created by crossing a Cockerspaniel with a Poodle. Cockapoos are extremely intelligent and have a highly affectionate nature, enabling them to make great family pets. They are also easily trainable due to their intelligence. Generally, Cockapoos have hypoallergenic coats which can range from light to dark in color. They can be scaled down to toy-size or stay as a medium-size dog depending on the size of the parent breeds used in the mix.
Cockapoos have a unique and soft coat, which can range in texture depending on the layer of hair they sport. The think layer of fur on the underside of a Cockapoo's body is the undercoat, which grows regularly and more often than the top layer, known as the outer coat. The undercoat is generally soft and fluffy, while the outer coat falls closer to the body and can be a bit more coarse.
Cockapoos are a very active breed that can require more nutrients than other breeds. It could be dangerous to feed them certain items found around the home, such as chocolate, grapes, and raisins, which can be toxic. Also, certain table scraps including fatty foods like bacon, sausage, and chicken skin should be avoided. Avoid giving any human food to Cockapoos as it can disrupt their digestive system, and it can be difficult for them to digest depending on the ingredients. Additionally, them eating too many treats can lead to dental problems and weight gain.
Before getting a Cockapoo, it is important to make sure you have all the essential supplies. Make sure you have leash and collar, food and water bowls, grooming supplies (shampoo, brushes, combs, nail clippers, etc.), toys (chew toys, interactive toys, etc.), a crate or pen, a few different types of bedding, and most importantly, treats. You will also need to research dog-friendly parks nearby and find a veterinarian to establish a relationship with.
Cockapoos are a mixed breed of dog, usually combining a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. Depending on which lineage they come from, they usually weigh between 12 and 24 pounds and can reach heights up to 14-15 inches. Cockapoos can vary in size depending on their parentage; some will be more the size of a Cocker Spaniel, while others will be more the size of a Poodle. It's important to research the parent breeds in order to get an idea of how big your Cockapoo will be when they reach full maturity.
Walking your Cockapoo is an essential part of its health and wellbeing. Depending on their age, size, and activity level, your Cockapoo may need anywhere from fifteen minutes to two hours of walking per day in order to stay healthy and fit. Generally, they should get at least thirty minutes; however, the best way to be sure is to consult with your veterinarian for advice tailored to your dog’s individual needs. Remember to take frequent breaks and always bring plenty of water when walking your Cockapoo as they are prone to overheating.
Absolutely! Cockapoos tend to be relatively easy to train and can make excellent first-time dogs for owners. In addition to being very friendly and having an even temperament, Cockapoos require minimal grooming and are a great fit for most living situations because of their small stature. Cockapoos have an adorable personality and are really rather easy to care for, making them an ideal companion for those without substantial experience with raising dogs. Plus, they have endless amounts of love and affection to give any new owner.
Cockapoos are well-known for being one of the most trainable dog breeds, but that does not mean that training them is always easy. It takes time, consistency, and patience to teach your Cockapoo behaviors, commands, and rules, and the whole process may feel like a challenge at times. However, with a positive attitude, lots of tender loving care, and the help of a professional dog trainer, you can achieve a well-trained Cockapoo that you can be proud of.
