Questions & Answers
Cockapoos are a hybrid breed of dog resulting from a mix of a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. They are a non-sporting, companion dog that often have curly hair, floppy ears, and long legs like the Poodle, and a square muzzle, short pasterns, and feathered hair like the Cocker Spaniel. In addition, they are quite affectionate and enjoy the company of their family.
Cockapoos typically have a teddy bear-like single coat that is generally soft and silky to the touch. The coats of the Cockapoo vary greatly from individual to individual – some are tightly curled, while some are straight; however, they will all have some wave. The most common coat colors for a Cockapoo are: white, cream, tan, white & apricot, black & white, and chocolate. The color of the coat will also likely change over time, usually lightening as the Cockapoo matures, until it reaches its adult color.
Cockapoos should not be fed foods that are high in fat, sugar, or salt, as these can lead to digestive problems. Additionally, human foods such as chocolate, grapes, nuts, and mushrooms can be toxic to Cockapoos, so it is important to not feed them any of these or similar food items. Avoid feeding your Cockapoo table scraps from meals these often contain ingredients that can make your pet ill. Raw meat, poultry, and fish should also never be given to a Cockapoo.
To prepare your home for a new Cockapoo, start by puppy-proofing your house. This includes making sure any small objects are out of reach, household chemicals are securely locked away, and there are no dangerous plants or pieces of furniture that your new puppy can chew on. Additionally, it might be helpful to purchase gates or crates to prevent your puppy from wandering into off-limit areas of the house. The next step is to make sure your puppy has all the necessary supplies such as a bed, collar, leash, food, toys, and brushes.
