Questions & Answers
Cockapoos are a unique hybrid of the Cocker Spaniel and Poodle breeds, making them a wonderful mix of intelligence, playfulness, and affection. One of the most interesting things about Cockapoos is their hybrid vigor, which is an increased level of health, resilience, and liveliness in selectively bred hybrid animals. Cockapoos are known to suffer from fewer hereditary issues, making them a hardy breed.
Whether Cockapoos cause allergies will depend on an individual's sensitivity to specific elements such as dander or fur. Cockapoos, which are a hybrid of both a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, have a hypoallergenic coat which has inherited qualities from both of its founding breeds. Due to this, many people with allergies find Cockapoos to be less likely to cause a reaction. However, it is not impossible for allergies to still be triggered. Because of this, performing an allergy test prior to committing to the purchase of a Cockapoo is advised.
Cockapoos, as well as all other breeds of dogs, require a balanced, nutrient-rich diet. You should look for a diet that specifically caters to the size and age of your dog. Generally, you should feed them two meals a day and divide the recommended portion into two separate portions. For adult Cockapoos under 15 pounds it is recommended that you give them 1/2 to 1 1/2 cups of food a day depending on their activity level. For Cockapoos over 15 pounds the recommended amount of food is up to 2 1/2 cups a day.
Before bringing your new Cockapoo home, it's important to take the necessary steps to ensure that their home is prepared. Start by cleaning and organizing your house, making sure to remove anything that you don't want chewed, scratched, or otherwise disturbed. Then create a safe area for them to sleep and play that will also allow for easy clean-up. Make sure to stock up on dog food, treats, and all other items you will need to care for your pup, as well as their favorite toys.
The adult size of your Cockapoo puppy depends largely on the size of their parents. Cockapoos are usually considered small to medium dogs, ranging in size from 15-25 pounds and 10-15 inches at the shoulder. With that said, Cockapoos come in all shapes and sizes, with coat types ranging from curly to wiry. Some may be larger than the suggested size range, and some may be smaller. Despite their size, Cockapoos are just as eager to please their families as larger breeds.
The amount of walking that is beneficial for your Cockapoo depends on their age, overall physical health, and activity level. Generally speaking, it is recommended to provide your Cockapoo with at least 20 to 30 minutes of exercise per day, which can include a walk and other physical activity. However, puppies may require extra exercise to ensure proper growth and development, so in that case, it's a good idea to walk your pup for at least 50 minutes per day.
Cockapoos make excellent family pets because they are naturally gentle and affectionate. They thrive when given regular socialization, attention, and positive reinforcement, and they adore playing with children. Cockapoos are highly adaptable and enjoy being part of our families, so they adjust nicely into households with children of all ages, from toddlers to teens. Not only are Cockapoos patient with kids, they provide people with a sense of emotional comfort and security, and make for loving, devoted companions for the entire family.
Training a Cockapoo is not too difficult, however consistency and positive reinforcement are key. First, begin by teaching your pup basic commands such as sit, stay, and come and be sure to reward them with treats every time they perform the desired behavior. Additionally, practice walks in and outside of the house to get them used to walking on a leash. When walking don't forget to keep treats on hand, this will train them to focus more on you and less on their surroundings. Furthermore, when teaching commands a good method to use is repetition.
