A Cockapoo is a hybrid dog breed that is created by crossing a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. They are considered to be designer dogs, as they are typically bred to combine the best traits from both breeds. Cockapoos are friendly and loving, making them great family pets. They love to play and can be quite active but still enjoy lots of cuddles and love from their owners. Cockapoos can come in just about any color and may have either wavy, curly, or straight coats, depending on which parent breed they get their coat from.
Managing allergies with Cockapoos is possible because they are a hypoallergenic breed. For example, you can cut down on contact from allergens by not allowing the pet in the bedroom and by regularly washing your pet with a specific shampoo to reduce allergic reactions. Avoid triggers like dust and pollen by keeping your pet away from heavily trafficked areas and showering your pet off after trips outside. Make sure to vacuum regularly to remove traces of dander that can irritate allergies. Lastly, never forget to consult your veterinarian and follow their advice in order to provide the best care to your pet.
Cockapoos generally need a diet that is balanced and age-appropriate. The type of food you feed your Cockapoo will depend upon their individual needs, such as age and activity level, as well as breed size and nutritional requirements. As a general rule, it is helpful to feed them a complete and balanced commercial kibble to ensure all those nutritional needs are met. You should also add supplementation to your Cockapoo's diet, such as fatty acids, minerals and vitamins that are not found in the food you give them. Size is the most variable physical trait when it comes to Cockapoos, as they range from small toy sizes to medium-sized dogs. On average, full-grown Cockapoos typically range in size from 10 to 20 pounds, but depending on the parents, they can go as small as 5 pounds or as large as 25 pounds. Therefore, it is hard to predict the exact size of your Cockapoo puppy; however, you may be able to get a good idea of the estimated size of your Cockapoo puppy by looking at the size of its parents.
Cockapoos need around 60 minutes of exercise daily, including short walks, runs, play time, and/or mental stimulation like agility courses. Regular exercise not only helps keep Cockapoos physically fit, but also encourages mental stimulation and keeps them behaving their best. Exercise should include different types of activities (i.e. running, fetching, leaping for a Frisbee) as different forms of exercise will work different muscles. Without regular exercise, a Cockapoo may become restless, displaying behaviors indicative of boredom or an excess of energy, such as destructive chewing and barking.
Cockapoos are known for their sweet, sociable nature and they can make great companions for children of all ages. Generally, they are very patient and tolerant of young kids and tend to be gentle and mild-mannered.
