Cockapoos are a hybrid, or designer, breed of dog that is a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. As such, Cockapoos cannot be put in to any one particular class or group in terms of their breed as they are a cross of two different breeds of dog. Cockapoos are generally considered to be an accepted, so-called ‘designer’ breed, as they combine the intelligence of the smart poodle with the friendly and loyal nature of the Cocker Spaniel.
Cockapoos have a reputation for being hypoallergenic, though there is no 100% guarantee of that. The lack of undercoat that Cockapoos typically have gives rise to the belief in their hypoallergenicity, but because all dogs can produce allergens, it is best to have a one-on-one trial period with any dog before making a commitment.
