Questions & Answers
Cockapoos are a popular hybrid breed of dog that are perfect for those looking for a small and loyal companion. This fun-loving breed is created by crossing a Poodle with a Cocker Spaniel, and is known for being quite intelligent as well as reliable and obedient. Cockapoos boast a wide range of coat colors and textures, and usually require a moderate amount of grooming. Cockapoos are also known to be very sociable, making them good family and therapy dogs. They require regular exercise, mental stimulation and plenty of love and attention in order to remain healthy and happy.
Managing allergies with Cockapoos is possible with certain steps. First, look into obtaining a hypoallergenic variety of the breed. Secondly, develop a regular brushing and cleaning routine for the pup. This should include brushing the coat and fur regularly, washing with a mild hypoallergenic shampoo, and cleaning its sleeping area. Additionally, keep the Cockapoo away from dust mites, pollen and other allergens. Vacuum and mop the home regularly as well.
Cockapoos are typically considered to be omnivorous, yet there are several important things that they should not eat. These items can be harmful to Cockapoos, and should be avoided at all costs. This includes chocolate and other sweets, popcorn, candy, grapes, raisins, anything with caffeine, onions, garlic, and chives. Additionally, raw meat and fish, nuts, and bones can also be highly dangerous, as can rawhides, sugar-free foods, and nutritional supplements.
Being the best puppy parent for your Cockapoo starts with loving them unconditionally and patiently training them. Make sure to provide them with lots of exercise and playtime outside to keep them healthy and happy. Showing them how to respond to basic commands such as sit, stay and come is essential and can help build trust between you and your pup. Additionally, offer them ample amounts of socialization by taking them on walks or to the dog park regularly to ensure they're well rounded and comfortable with other animals.
Cockapoos come in a variety of sizes. Toy Cockapoos are the smallest, reaching heights of up to 10-14 inches and usually weighing 4-9 pounds. The next size up is the Miniature, usually standing 10-15 inches tall and weighing 10-19 pounds. Beyond that, there are the Medium Cockapoos which tend to be 15-20 inches tall and typically weigh around 20-30 pounds. Then you have the Maxi Cockapoos, measuring anywhere from 20-25 inches in height and 30-45 pounds in weight.
Cockapoos are an active breed that need quite a bit of exercise and stimulation to stay healthy and happy. A good amount of exercise for your Cockapoo is 30-60 minutes a day, mostly outdoors. This can include a daily walk, a jogging session, a swim in the sea, chasing a ball, agility training, or any form of supervised outdoor activities. Cockapoos benefit from mental and physical stimulation, so in addition to regular exercise, provide them with lots of toys and games that will challenge them and keep them engaged.
Cockapoos are typically known for being an exceptionally friendly and gentle breed, making them excellent companions for children of all ages. Generally considered to be a low-allergen breed, Cockapoos are also hypoallergenic, something that is important to keep in mind when choosing a canine family member. They make great playmates for kids and are easily able to adapt to their environment. Cockapoos are also known for being extremely intelligent, which helps them easily develop a strong bond with their family, including children.
Training a Cockapoo can vary depending on their age, but as a general rule of thumb, you should aim to spend at least 10 minutes per day (on average) on training. It’s important to break up the time throughout the day to reinforce good behaviour in short bursts throughout the day, rather that trying to do it all at once. Puppies should have 10 to 15 minutes of structured training, twice a day. If your Cockapoo is older, they may require more training unlike a younger pup that will need immediate, continuous reinforcement.
