Cockapoos have a dual-natured temperament, combining the intelligence and sociability of the Poodle with the gentleness and loving nature of the Cocker Spaniel. This unique combination makes Cockapoos an ideal companion for families who seek an affectionate and intelligent companion, but may not have the knowledge and time to commit to raising and training a purebred Cocker Spaniel or Poodle.
Cockapoos are surprisingly non-shedding dogs, making them a popular choice for individuals and families with allergies. Studies have shown that these hybrid dogs, a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, possess a gene combination that drastically reduces the amount of fur they shed. While they have a thick coat, the fur does not escape the coat as it does in a more shedding breed of dog. This helps to keep floors, couches, and other furniture much cleaner.
Cockapoos should not be fed foods that contain lots of sugar, such as candy and other sweets, because the high sugar content can cause dental problems like tooth decay and gum disease. They should also avoid unhealthy snacks like potato chips, french fries, and other cooked treats that are high in fat and salt, as these can cause weight gain and other health problems. Certain types of bones can also be very dangerous to give to a Cockapoo as they can splinter and cause intestinal obstructions or other health issues.
