Questions & Answers
Cockapoos are an adorable mix of both the Cocker Spaniel and Poodle, making them a very unique breed. As with any dog breed, there are some fascinating facts that make them special. For example, Cockapoos may come in a variety of colors, including buff, white, apricot, and black. They are also highly intelligent, as both the Poodle and Cocker Spaniel are highly trainable. In addition, Cockapoos are overall very low-shedding, meaning that they are a great choice for those with allergies.
Whether Cockapoos will cause you to have allergies largely depends upon several factors, such as the individual's unique sensitivity to allergens, the breed of the Cockapoo, and the individual's specific environment. First, a person's individual sensitivity to allergens will come into play when determining if Cockapoos cause allergies. Someone with a lesser sensitivity to allergens may be able to tolerate Cockapoos with fewer allergic reactions. Second, different breeds of Cockapoos carry varying levels of allergens, which may affect your individual allergies.
Cockapoos should never be fed anything that contains chocolate, xylitol, grapes, raw yeast dough, milk-based treats, or human junk food as these substances can be toxic to their health. Additionally, they should not be fed fatty snacks, such as bacon or beef fat trimmings, or food that is high in sugar as these can cause weight gain and predispose them to diabetes. Corn on the cob is often times difficult for Cockapoos to digest and therefore should not be part of their diet.
When preparing for a new Cockapoo, it is important to take some time to get familiar with breed characteristics and qualities. This includes researching typical temperament, size, exercise needs, and general care requirements. Additionally, it is important to prepare the home environment. This includes puppy-proofing by checking for hazards like loose wires, secure trash cans, supervising young children, and investing in appropriate toys and training aids. Consider budgeting for essentials such as a crate, a leash for walks, and food and treats.
Cockapoos are unique and adorable dogs that are a combination of both a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, making them vary in size depending on which parent they take after. Generally, Cockapoos size will range anywhere from approximately 8-15 pounds and can reach heights between 10 15 inches, sometimes a bit larger depending on how much of one parent breed they take after. A toy Cockapoo can reach heights of up to 10 inches maximum, whilst a miniature Cockapoo can reach heights of 11 14 inches.
Cockapoos need a good amount of exercise. To best meet their exercise needs, owners should aim to give their Cockapoo at least an hour of dedicated activity time each day whether it's a long walk, a vigorous game of fetch, or a combination of activities that use up their energy. For Cockapoos in particular, it's a great idea to give them mental stimulation as well as physical activities, as these highly intelligent pups can become bored easily and may become destructive.
Cockapoos are generally a great option for a family pet! They often combine many of the best traits of the two parent dogs, Cocker Spaniels and Poodles, such as playful, energetic personalities and a love for attention and cuddling. They are also often very smart and trainable, making them a great companion for families with children. Cockapoos come in all sorts of sizes, so you can choose the perfect size for your home. Many Cockapoos also have low-shedding coats so they won't worsen allergies.
Training a Cockapoo is a crucial part of successful pet ownership. Training should begin as soon as the puppy arrives at your home in order to teach your pet good manners and how to interact with humans. Positive reinforcement works best for Cockapoos, so use lots of praise and treats when your pup behaves correctly. Start teaching basic commands such as ‘sit’, ‘stay’ and ‘lie down’, then move onto household rules such as not jumping on furniture or eating certain foods.
