Questions & Answers
Cockapoos are a hybrid or 'designer' breed of dog which have a combination of Poodle and Cocker Spaniel origins. They are a loving family pet, prized for their intelligence, vibrant energy, and hypoallergenic coats. They can also come in a variety of sizes, ranging from small to large, meaning they can fit almost any lifestyle or family. Cockapoos are a popular choice among many dog owners as they are healthy and generally known to exhibit a good temperament; they usually get along well with children, other family members, and even other animals.
Cockapoos are known for having a beautiful, soft coat. This unique hybrid breed is a combination of the Poodle and Cocker Spaniel, and a Cockapoo's coat usually reflects a combination of these two breeds; with a Poodle being the parent breed, the coat of a Cockapoo is generally soft and wavy. Some Cockapoos have curls, but the curls tend to become less pronounced in adulthood than they are in the puppy-hood years. The colors vary from black, black and tan, white, beige, golden, cream, and silver.
Cockapoos should not be fed any kind of chocolate, caffeine, tea, or coffee as these can be extremely harmful for them. They should also avoid any processed foods, or products that contain too much sugar, salt, or artificial additives. It is also important to avoid giving Cockapoos any type of food that contains the artificial sweetener Xylitol, as this can be fatal to them. Additionally, raw meat, raw eggs, and avocados should be avoided, as Cockapoos can be sensitive to them.
First and foremost, make sure to contact your veterinarian and schedule an initial checkup for your new Cockapoo. This will help ensure that your four-legged friend gets off to a good start with any necessary vaccinations or treatments. Additionally, it's important to stock up on the necessary supplies: food and water bowls, a leash, collar and/or harness, crate, toys, treats, and grooming supplies (like shampoo, a comb, and nail clippers). Setting boundaries for the pet is also an important part of preparation.
Cockapoos come in a variety of sizes, ranging from tiny to large. The Toy Cockapoo stands 10-14 inches in height and weighs 6-10 pounds; the Miniature Cockapoo stands 11-14 inches in height and weighs 12-24 pounds; and the Standard Cockapoo stands 15-17 inches in height and weighs around 18-40 pounds. All sizes of Cockapoo should lead an active lifestyle, and proper exercise and nutrition are essential for healthy growth.
Cockapoos require quite a bit of exercise! This breed is very active and agile, so they need daily physical activity to stay happy and healthy. Most experts recommend at least one hour of exercise per day for Cockapoos. This should include a live game of fetch, jogging, long walks, or a similarly strenuous activity. It is also important to mix up the kind of exercise given to prevent boredom. Fortunately, Cockapoos have good stamina and can be taken out and about for long periods and, if possible, for multiple walks throughout the day.
Cockapoos are very good with children and make excellent family pets. They are not only loyal and affectionate companions, but also intelligently curious, living to learn and please their owners. With the right level of socialization, Cockapoos are incredibly social and bond closely with both family and friends. They can also be gentle and playful with kind children; making them the perfect pet for any family.
Training your Cockapoo can be a rewarding experience and lead to a long-lasting bond between you and your pup. The first step is to acclimate your pup to basic commands like 'sit', 'stay' or 'come'. You can do this by offering treats as rewards every time they listen to a command. Try to keep the treats small so your pup is not overfed. Consistency is key when it comes to training, so make sure to practice the same command frequently and reward your pup for correct behavior.
