Questions & Answers
Cockapoos are a mix of a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle and are considered a designer dog breed. They are very intelligent, lovable, and have a great sense of humor. Cockapoos usually weigh between 10 40 pounds, so they are considered a smallto medium-sized breed. They have even-tempered personalities and tend to be happy and affectionate. They love to play, but also enjoy cuddling and spending time with their humans. Cockapoos also make great watchdogs, as they tend to bark when something is amiss.
The Cockapoo is truly a unique hybrid breed that features a coat of fur just as special. Their coat consists of a double layer, with the undercoat being soft and silky while the outer layer is longer and a bit wavy. The colors and patterns may vary, but white, apricot, red, sandy, silver, buff, black, and chocolate are the most common. Grooming is important in order to keep the coat clean and free of any mats or tangles.
Cockapoos should not be fed table scraps, bones, fried food, chocolate or anything spicy. Unfortunately, some human food can be very harmful to their health, so it's important to carefully monitor what they eat. Common food items to avoid are popcorn, avocados, raw dough, doughnuts, grapes, onions, raisins, and macadamia nuts. Also, processed treats should also be avoided as they contain unhealthy levels of fat, sugar, and preservatives.
When preparing for a new Cockapoo companion, there are certainly a few essentials you should have on hand to ensure your pup has a comfortable and safe home. First, you’ll need food and water bowls for both meals and snacks. Make sure these are secure and easily accessible for your pup at all times. Additionally, you should have a bed or a comfortable place for your pup to sleep and rest. A few basic toys to keep them entertained and keep their minds active are also important.
Cockapoos are generally considered small dogs due to their small size and stature. Typically, such hybrid breeds are bred specifically to be smaller than their purebred parent breeds. The average adult Cockapoo will weigh between 6 20 lbs and will typically stand between 10 15 inches in height. Some breeders do purposely breed larger varieties of the Cockapoo, but these will be of the exception rather than the rule. Overall, even the larger Cockapoos should still fall into the 'small' category when considering the average range of the various other dog breeds.
Cockapoos are a lively, adventurous breed that often loves water play. Generally, Cockapoos enjoy swimming, and they often have a natural affinity for the water. With proper guidance and training, most Cockapoos can learn how to swim in pools, rivers and lakes. With their loyal, eager-to-please nature and love of having fun, Cockapoos usually take to swimming quickly and happily.
Cockapoos are excellent with kids! They typically have loving, affectionate, and loyal temperaments that make them great family pets. Plus, Cockapoos get along with both children and parents, so parents can have peace of mind knowing that their children are in safe and caring company. They are also very smart, so with proper training they can be taught to respect boundaries and play nice with other kids. And, their low-shedding and hypoallergenic features make them a great choice for families with allergies.
Training a Cockapoo can be quite easy if you are willing to dedicate the necessary time and effort to the task. Cockapoos are naturally intelligent and obedient dogs, so they can learn the basics easily. To make sure your Cockapoo gets all the training it needs to be well-behaved, you should start with a firm foundation of basic commands such as sit, stay, and come. Regularly practicing commands with treats and positive reinforcement is also key to successful training. With the right amount of patience and consistency, your Cockapoo can learn a variety of different behaviors over time.
