Questions & Answers
Cockapoos are unique and intriguing little dogs! Aside from the fact that they are incredibly intelligent, they are also known for their loving and gentle personalities. Because of their hybrid status, Cockapoos can vary significantly in size, color, and coat texture. This means that no two Cockapoos look exactly the same, which makes them a great conversation starter! To top it off, they are also known for being incredibly easy to train because they have a strong desire to please their owners.
While cockapoos don't have a specific reputation of causing allergies, it is possible that someone could have an allergic reaction to this breed. Allergies are caused by an individual's immune system responding to proteins that are found in the saliva, dander, and urine of animals. Cockapoos produce these proteins, just like any other breed of dog. However, every individual is different, so it is best to consult with your doctor for a full assessment.
Cockapoos should not be fed human foods such as chocolate, nuts, onions, avocados, grapes, or raisins. These foods are all toxic to dogs and can be fatal if ingested. Additionally, Cockapoos should not be fed table scraps. Table scrap foods contain high levels of fat, sodium, and sugar, which can lead to excessive weight gain and medical issues. It's best to strictly feed Cockapoos a balanced, nutritious diet specifically formulated for them.
Preparing for a new Cockapoo starts with researching the breed and their specific needs. Make sure to find out about any health issues common to the breed and the environmental conditions that may be better suited for your new pup. Next, create a schedule for meals, exercise, and potty/playtime, to help your pup get used to their daily routine. Assemble a place for them to sleep, such as a large crate or bed with blankets, and ensure the space is secure and safe. Equip them with all the necessary items from food dishes and toys to grooming supplies.
Cockapoos can vary in size depending on their parentage; they can range from small to medium in size. Generally, Cockapoos weigh 10-25 pounds and stand around 10-15 inches tall. However, there are some Cockapoos that can be a bit larger than small and medium; this depends on if the Toy Poodle or Miniature Poodle was used in the breeding.
It depends on your desired level of activity for your Cockapoo as well as the age and health of the dog. Generally speaking, on average a Cockapoo should get some form of physical activity entering its daily routine. That can vary from light to extensive exercise. As a rule of thumb, on average, a Cockapoo should get at least 30 to 45 minutes of physical activity each day. If the Cockapoo is younger and full of energy, it may require more exercise, such as and hour or more.
Cockapoos are an ideal choice for first-time owners. They are an intelligent, people-oriented breed that is not only easy to train, but also loves to learn and is part of the Toy Group. These pups are affectionate, energetic, and eager to please, making them a perfect match for both novice and experienced dog owners.
Training a Cockapoo is a great way to ensure a long and happy relationship between you and your pup! The best way to begin is by providing your pup with lots of positive reinforcement, using rewards such as treats and lots of enthusiastic praise. Start with simple commands such as “sit,” “stay,” and “come”. The key is to keep training sessions short but frequent, and end each session on a positive note. Remaining consistent and patient is essential in teaching your pup the desired behaviors.
