Questions & Answers
Cockapoos are a hybrid or designer dog breed, which is a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. They are recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club, the Designer Dogs Kennel Club, the International Designer Canine Registry, and the Cockapoo Club of America. Some defining features of Cockapoos are their medium-length, wavy or curly coat, their endearing personalities, their friendly innate nature towards other dogs and people, and their small size.
Cockapoos are not considered fully hypoallergenic due to their coating, however, they do have a much lower allergen count than most other breeds. Cockapoos boast a softer, wavier hair that is much less likely to cause irritation and/or swelling unlike some of the coarser breeds. Additionally, their low-shedding coats make them a great option for those with allergies or asthma. They require regular grooming, but a good brushing, nail trim, and occasional bath should keep them looking and smelling great.
Cockapoos should never be fed chocolate, alcohol, grapes, raisins, or any foods high in fat or sugar as these can all cause digestive problems. Additionally, raw meat, raw eggs, pitted fruits, citrus fruits, onions, and garlic can all be dangerous to the health of your Cockapoo and should not be fed. Cockapoos may be tempted to try to eat these seemingly tasty foods, but owners should be sure to replace dangerous foods with healthier treats designed specifically for dogs. All food items should be fed in moderation.
Before getting a Cockapoo, it's essential to have the right items on hand. This includes a dog bed, food and water bowls, quality food formulated for puppies, treats, toys, a collar and leash, grooming supplies, and waste bags. Additionally, a brush or comb, toothbrush, shampoo and/or conditioner, toothpaste, nail clippers and, optionally, a crate are helpful. Having these items ready will make your Cockapoo's transition to your home smoother and ensure that you are providing them with the best possible care.
Cockapoos are considered to be small to medium-sized dogs. These pups typically range in size from 25-40 pounds when fully grown, which is significantly smaller than many larger dog breeds. While Cockapoos do come in a variety of sizes ranging from mini to standard, most people consider them to be in the small to medium range. As such, it's unlikely that a Cockapoo would be considered a big dog.
Yes, Cockapoos are active dogs, and they require adequate exercise, mental stimulation, and playtime. These pups are relatively high-energy compared to other breeds. As a result, they need regular and consistent opportunities to stay in shape mentally and physically. Whether you’re getting one for yourself or your family, it is important that everyone is fully committed to providing the Cockapoo with quality physical and mental exercise. That way, they will remain a healthy, happy, and active furry companion.
Cockapoos are an ideal choice for families who wish for a loving, devoted pet. This breed is known for having an even-tempered and gentle disposition, making them great for families with children or other animals. Their size is also convenient, as they are small enough to live in an apartment but can also handle larger spaces. Research has shown that Cockapoos are also very intelligent and can be very easily trained. They are also hypoallergenic, so if anyone in your family has allergies, you won't have to worry about them.
Training a Cockapoo can be quite easy once you understand their particular temperament. Cockapoos are known for their intelligence, so they usually show a desire to learn and please their owners. Consistency is key when training a Cockapoo, so it's important to stick to a schedule and reward them with lots of positive reinforcement. Establishing a trusting relationship is essential as Cockapoos thrive when they feel secure. Start by teaching them basic obedience commands such as sit, stay and down. Use plenty of treats and praise when they listen to your commands.
