Questions & Answers
Cockapoos are some of the most interesting and unique dog breeds around! They are a hybrid breed, developed by crossing a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, and this results in an incredibly smart and loving pet that is incredibly friendly and easy to train. Furthermore, Cockapoos come in all kinds of sizes and colors, so they can fit in just about any home. Not to mention, their wonderful curly coats mean they need very little grooming and don't shed as much as other pets.
While some Cockapoos are labeled as “non-shedding”, they CAN and WILL still shed. However, the Cockapoo’s coat is usually soft, thick, and curly, so the shedding will be minimal. This breed of hybrid dog is considered to be hypoallergenic, meaning it is less likely to cause an allergic reaction, and their low-shedding coats will also reduce the amount of pet hair in the home. As well, Cockapoos require minimal grooming to keep their coats looking and feeling their best.
Cockapoos do have some special dietary needs compared to other breeds of dogs due to their size and characteristics. They have a tendency to become overweight, so it is important to choose a diet that is lower in fat and contains lean proteins and moderate carbohydrates. It is also important to consider the age of your Cockapoo; if they are a puppy, they will need a diet that is specifically created for the nutritional needs of puppies, while if they are an adult, they will need a diet most appropriate for their age.
Preparing for your new Cockapoo involves having all of the necessary supplies ready upon arrival. Make sure that you have the right quality of food, treats, toys, bedding, and a leash/harness before bringing your pup home. It's also important to set time aside to research things like training and grooming habits of Cockapoos. If you're interested in enrolling your pup in obedience courses, it's best to do this prior to their arrival in order to get them acclimated with the environment.
Cockapoos typically reach a mature weight between 10 and 20 pounds and average a height of 10-15 inches. Most Cockapoos don't reach their full size until around one year old. The size of a Cockapoo is influenced by the size of its parents, with Toy Poodles and Miniature Poodles producing smaller Cockapoos and Standard Poodles producing larger Cockapoos. It's essential to understand that Cockapoos will vary in size within a litter, especially if they have different parents.
Cockapoos need daily exercise to keep them healthy and happy, and walking is a great form of exercise. Depending on the age and energy level of your Cockapoo, it is recommended that you walk your pup for at least half an hour to an hour per day. This should generally consist of two walks, with shorter walks in the morning and evening. If your pup is particularly energetic, they may need more walking and active playtime each day, divided into multiple walks throughout the day.
Absolutely! Cockapoos are incredibly smart, loving and loyal dogs. They typically get along great with both adults and children, making them the perfect addition to any family. Not only are Cockapoos affectionate and playful, but they are also easy to train. They are also highly adaptable and responsive, so they can easily fit into your family's routine. Cockapoos are also great watchdogs, as they will warn you if something is out of the ordinary, without necessarily being aggressive.
Training your Cockapoo is an important part of ownership. It's a great way to ensure that your dog is well-behaved, safe, and healthy. To get started, take some time to familiarize yourself with the breed—while they are generally sociable and easy to train, Cockapoos have their own unique needs and personalities. It's also helpful to research positive reinforcement-based training techniques. Positive reinforcement is a popular training method that uses verbal praise, treats, and other rewards to encourage desired behaviors. Start with basic obedience training and work your way up to more advanced commands.
