Questions & Answers
A Cockapoo is a hybrid designer dog that is created by crossing a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. The main motivation behind the breeding of Cockapoos is to combine the best traits of both breeds, in terms of their intelligence, trainability, and loving nature. They are considered to be hypoallergenic, and they are usually good with children. Generally, Cockapoos possess low-shedding coats and come in a number of sizes and colors.
It is possible that Cockapoos may cause some people to experience allergies. However, it depends on the individual because everyone is different and reacts differently to different things. Additionally, some people may be more sensitive to fur, dander, or saliva allergies which can trigger allergic reactions. It is important to note that Cockapoos are not hypoallergenic, but they tend to lessen the amount of pet dander that they produce when compared to other breeds.
Cockapoos can typically enjoy a variety of well-balanced meals that usually include a mix of meat and vegetables. It is generally advised that Cockapoos be fed high-quality dog food, specifically designed for small breeds. Generally, a small-breed diet should contain at least 19-22% of protein and 8-12% of fat, with the remaining amount made up of carbohydrates and fiber. Supplemental vitamins can and should be added to their diet, especially for Cockapoos that are often exposed to cold temperatures and/or extreme weather.
Before getting a Cockapoo, some essentials you should consider purchasing include food and water bowls, a soft or hard bed, a crate for when you need to travel, a soft brush, a flea and tick preventative, dog tags, and toys to help keep your new pup entertained. Additionally, having training pads on hand for housebreaking, a harness or collar and leash for walks, and a toothbrush and toothpaste to keep their pearly whites clean are all must-haves before bringing your Cockapoo home.
Cockapoos can range in size from tiny toy varieties, such as those that weigh less than 10 lbs, to medium-sized breeds which typically range from 10-25 lbs. It is possible to make a guesstimate about how big a puppy will be once fully grown, however it's important to remember that they continue to grow and develop after one year of age. It's best to consult with an experienced veterinary or breeder for an accurate picture of what size to expect for your pup.
Cockapoos are certainly active dogs. They have been known to become quite attached to their owners and love to get the attention of their family members. As well as being active around the house, they also have strong exercise needs and enjoy outdoor activities, such as walk or fetch. Regular exercise and stimulation is especially important for this breed, as it helps to keep their energy levels in check and promote good behavior. Cockapoos are also quite curious and can often get themselves into fun but potentially dangerous situations.
Generally, Cockapoos have a friendly and social nature and tend to get along well with children. They are usually very affectionate and outgoing, making them an ideal breed for a household with kids. They are very patient and enjoy being around children, so they make excellent family pets. Even though Cockapoos have a generally good temperament, it's important to teach your children the correct way to interact with animals. Also, proper training in the puppy stage is key in making sure your kids and Cockapoo get along harmoniously.
It depends on the individual Cockapoo and its energy level, but most Cockapoos should receive at least 30 minutes of active physical exercise every day. This should be complemented by regular interactive play with you or other people and/or dogs, which will also help keep them mentally stimulated in addition to their physical exercise routine. If your Cockapoo is a puppy, it is important to consult your veterinarian for their opinion on how much exercise they should be getting according to their age and level of development.
