Questions & Answers
Cockapoos are a hybrid, or designer, breed that is a cross between a Poodle and a Cocker Spaniel. Depending on what type of Poodle they are crossed with, Cockapoos can come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Generally, they are active, friendly, and loving companion dogs, and are great family pets. Cockapoos do not have an officially recognized classification by the American Kennel Club, so they are not considered a breed by the AKC. Instead, they are typically referred to by many as a mixed breed.
It depends on the individual. While Cockapoos are generally considered to be a hypoallergenic breed, it is impossible to say for certain that they will not cause any allergic reactions. Allergens vary based on the individual dog and the environment they live in. If you have allergies, it is best to consult with an allergist and then try to spend some time with a Cockapoo before considering adoption to see if you have any reactions.
Cockapoos should generally not be fed anything that is high in fat, sugar, or salt. Human food such as candy, cheese, breakfast cereals, potato chips, and other snack foods, as well as chocolate, grapes, raisins, onions, and garlic, should be avoided because they can be toxic for Cockapoos and some can cause an upset stomach or other digestive issues. Pets should also not be fed bones, rawhide, or lamb ears due to lack of nutritional value and possible choking hazards.
Becoming the best puppy parent for your Cockapoo starts with commitment, patience, and plenty of love! To ensure your pup's health and safety, prevent destructive behaviors, and develop an enjoyable relationship between the two of you, consider enrolling in a puppy obedience class. This will give you the opportunity to learn essential commands for your pup, teach him or her how to socialize, and acquire knowledge from experienced trainers. Also, make sure to provide a safe environment for your Cockapoo by puppy-proofing your home, and providing chew toys or interactive games to help reduce anxiety.
Cockapoos are usually considered an incredibly small breed of dog. Generally, Cockapoos only reach a weight of 15-30 pounds which makes them ideal for apartment dwellers and those who don't have large backyards. An added bonus for those looking for a smaller breed, Cockapoos are also often said to live up to 15 years. Although Cockapoos are not the smallest breed of dog, their smaller size and extended lifespans make them popular among those who are looking for a smaller breed of pooch.
Cockapoos are definitely active dogs. They are energetic, lively, and get bored easily. With proper exercise, plenty of mental stimulation, and socialization, Cockapoos will remain happily active and alert. They have the energy of a Poodle paired with the curiosity of a Cocker Spaniel; both breeds have a natural enthusiasm and zest for life. While this makes them great companions, it can sometimes make them mischievous if they don't get an adequate outlet for their energy.
Cockapoos are generally thought to be great with children, having inherited characteristics such as intelligence, affection, patience, and cuteness from both of its parent breeds. With its affectionate and eager-to-please nature, Cockapoos are usually very tolerant of kids and may even aim to please them. It's important to note, however, that these dogs need to be well socialized early in life to ensure they get along with children in all phases of their lives. This includes meeting different people, visiting different places and being exposed to different types of animals.
Absolutely! Cockapoos are known for being loyal and smart companions. They have been bred to be great family dogs and have an even temperament, making them a popular choice for people looking for a new pup.
