Cockapoos are a breed of small dog resulting from a cross between the American Cocker Spaniels and Poodles. They are often considered to be low-shedding, making them a good choice for people with allergies. They tend to be very social, intelligent, and eager to please their owners. They usually have a short, soft, wavy coat that does require occasional brushing and grooming. It's important to provide Cockapoos with appropriate amounts of mental and physical stimulation, or they may become bored and destructive. As with all dogs, socialization is important.
The Cockapoo typically has a medium-length, smooth coat that may range from moderately wavy to altogether curly. It is a hybrid dog, and as such, the length can vary, with some having coats that are quite short and others having long, fluffy coats. The texture of the coat is usually thick and dense, so it may need additional brushing at least once a week. This breed requires a moderate amount of maintenance, and you may need to trim the coat every few months so it stays soft and neat looking.
Cockapoos should not be fed any type of chocolate, raisins, grapes, or other fruits that contain the compound known as hydroxycinnamic acid. Furthermore,highly processed, high-fat, high-sodium foods such as chips and other snacks, fast-foods, and sausages should also be avoided. Cockapoos should also not be fed foods that contain any kind of sweetener including sugar, honey, and molasses. Avoid feeding your Cockapoo bones, as well as any raw diet.
To prepare your home for your new Cockapoo, it's important to set up a comfortable space exclusively for them. This should include a bed and two food dishes, one for water and one for food. Make sure to have various toys to keep them entertained, and an outdoor space like a small backyard or balcony where they can get some fresh air. Additionally, puppies require a lot of love and attention, so be sure to establish a routine of taking them on walks and/or to the park.
Cockapoos come in three size variations, depending on the size of the parent breeds: Toy, Miniature, and Standard. A Toy Cockapoo is generally a cross between a Toy Poodle and an American or English Cocker Spaniel. The Toy Cockapoo is the smallest variety, usually weighing between 6 and 12 pounds and standing less than a foot tall. A Miniature Cockapoo is usually a combination of a Miniature Poodle and an American or English Cocker Spaniel and typically weighs between 13 and 18 pounds and is between 12 and 15 inches in height.
Cockapoos are generally active dogs that require plenty of physical and mental stimulation. They are highly energetic and need regular exercise and playtime to stay healthy, physically and mentally. They love to be involved in activities with their owners, such as running, swimming, hiking, games, competitions and more.
