Cockapoos are an incredibly unique breed of dog that have a one-of-a-kind personality. They are incredibly friendly and outgoing, yet at the same time, incredibly smart and loyal. However, what makes them truly interesting is that they combine traits from both Poodles and Cocker Spaniels in one pet, giving you the best of both worlds in one amazing package. Cockapoos also come in many sizes, colors, and coat types, so you can choose one that fits your lifestyle without having to compromise on any of the characteristics you desire in a pet.
The Cockapoo coat is a combination of coats that the two parent breeds, the Poodle and the Cocker Spaniel, inherit. On average, the Cockapoo's coat will be a mix between the two and can be either wavy or curly. Their fur texture is usually soft and often quite thick. Regular brushing is recommended as Cockapoos require minimal upkeep. These coats also come in a variety of colors, from solid colors to black and tan to silver and sable. In some cases, Cockapoos even have a multi-colored coat.
Cockapoos should not be fed chocolate, raisins, grapes, avocados, macadamia nuts, onions, garlic, chives, alcohol, or anything with a lot of sugar. These items can all be toxic to Cockapoos and if consumed, could lead to serious health problems. Additionally, Cockapoos should not be fed bones from any animal – cooked or uncooked – as these can break and become lodged in the throat or intestines, causing health complications. Cockapoos need a balanced diet of high-quality, veterinarian-approved food.
Before getting a Cockapoo, make sure you are properly equipped with all the essentials. First and foremost, you'll need a bed or crate for your pup to have a safe place to rest and sleep. Once you get your Cockapoo, get a few chew toys, puppy food, and bowls for food and water. Also, a leash and collar are important for walking. Pick up some grooming items, such as a brush, shampoo, and nail clippers. Don’t forget about doggie treats for training.
It's impossible to say with 100% certainty how large your Cockapoo puppy will be when it is fully grown. However, Cockapoos typically range from around 10-20 pounds when they're adults. This breed is a combination of the miniature Poodle and the American or English Cocker Spaniel. This is a hybrid mix, so size ranges can vary. A good indicator of your puppy's adult size is to look at the size of his parents, and monitor his growth to make a more accurate prediction.
Generally speaking, Dog owners should aim to spend at least 30 minutes a day walking their Cockapoo. This can be done in multiple 5 to 10-minute blocks over the course of a day. However, some days may require more. If your Cockapoo loves to play and explore, you might want to increase the amount — and vary the activity — to keep them mentally and physically stimulated. And if you find that they need more exercise, or if they simply seem bored, then increasing it to an hour or more per day might be beneficial.
