Questions & Answers
Cockapoos are a hybrid breed, combining the intelligence and outgoing personality of a Cocker Spaniel with the low-shedding coat of a Poodle. They come in a variety of colors and their coats can be wavy, straight, or curly. Cockapoos also have a wonderful temperament and love being around people in fact, they are known as the 'Velcro' breed because they are so devoted! These sociable pups need lots of love and attention, and they can even be trained to be therapy dogs.
While Cockapoos are generally known for their low-shedding coat, each individual dog can vary from one another. Generally speaking, the rarer the Cockapoo breed and the less its coats mix, the more low-shedding it will be. Because of the way Cockapoos are bred, there is not a clear consensus on whether Cockapoos are non-shedding or not. However, a vast majority of Cockapoos have coats that shed very little and can fall into the non-shedding classification.
Cockapoos should not be fed anything that contains chocolate, grapes, candy, or any type of human food that is high in sugar, salt, or fat. Feeding your Cockapoo table scraps, too many treats, or anything with high levels of preservatives can lead to digestive issues, a decrease in energy, and weight gain. Rawhide bones are known to be a choking hazard and can also cause intestinal blockages. Additionally, your Cockapoo should not consume dairy products or nut-based products, as these can cause stomach upset.
Before getting a Cockapoo, some essential items you should consider getting are a collar and leash, dog food and dishes, treats, a bed, toys, grooming supplies, and waste bags for when you're out and about. Additionally, you should talk to a veterinarian to learn about the type of food and medication appropriate for your pup. You may want to acquire a training guide to help your Cockapoo adjust to its new home. Pet insurance is also something to consider to help reduce costly veterinary expenses. Vaccines should also be administered according to your vet's instructions.
Cockapoos come in four different size varieties. Toy Cockapoos typically have a height of 8-12 inches and weigh between 6 to 10 pounds. Miniature Cockapoos have a height of 13-17 inches and weigh around 15 pounds. The medium size Cockapoo typically stands at 18-20 inches tall and weighs 18-22 pounds. And then the Standard size Cockapoo stands at 21-23 inches tall and weighs 23-25 pounds. All Cockapoos have a proportional body structure and coat color that varies depending on the breed of the sire and dam.
Absolutely! Taking your Cockapoo running can be a wonderful experience for both you and your pup. It's important to make sure that you condition your dog to running gradually so that they don't become injured or over-exerted. Consider starting by taking a short walk with your dog and slowly transitioning to running as your pup builds up endurance. In order to ensure that your pup stays safe while running, be sure to check that their paws aren't too hot, as well as bring plenty of water and a few healthy treats in case they get tired and need a rest.
Cockapoos are generally considered to be a great breed for families with kids, as they tend to have gentle and loving temperaments and are very tolerant. Cockapoos tend to enjoy children's company and usually display a great deal of affection and patience when playing with children. In addition, because they are intelligent and eager to please, they easily bond with family members and can be trained to understand basic commands.
Properly training a Cockapoo can be a challenging, yet rewarding experience. As long as you are equipped with knowledge of their personality traits, patience, commitment, and persistence, the prospect of training a Cockapoo can be an enjoyable one. When it comes to training, knowledge is key. The more you know about the Cockapoo breed and their needs, the better you will be able to provide them with the best guidance and instruction. Additionally, employing positive reinforcement methods of training are recommended. Remember to be consistent with the commands and rewards that you choose to use.
