Questions & Answers
Cockapoos are a hybrid or designer breed of dog. This breed is created from two different purebreds—a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle—and it is classed as a ‘toy’ breed or companion dog. This breed is seen as being intelligent, affectionate and easy to train. They typically are good with children and other animals, and can even possess hypoallergenic qualities depending on their parentage. Additionally, they are relatively low maintenance in terms of coat care and grooming.
Cockapoos, the popular hybrid breed of Poodle and Cocker Spaniel, are known to have a non-shedding coat. This is due in part to the Poodle genetics which many Cockapoos inherit. While genetics is a big factor, they do still require professional grooming several times a year to help maintain their coat and keep it looking neat and tidy. Some Cockapoos may experience minimal shedding, and while not every individual is completely hypoallergenic, they are still a relatively low-shedding breed.
Cockapoos should not be fed chocolate, onions, grapes, avocados, macadamia nuts, peanuts, candy, or any kind of processed or fatty foods. These foods can cause serious health problems, including diarrhea, vomiting, or other digestive issues. Also, avoid giving Cockapoos bones, as these can splinter and cause serious harm to their digestive tract. It's best to stick to specially formulated diets for Cockapoos, as their gastrointestinal system is delicate. Some people think that their dog likes a certain food, when in fact it can be dangerous for their health.
Before getting a Cockapoo, it's important to make sure you have all the essentials needed for your pup's new life with you. These items include food and water bowls, a soft bed or crate, treats and chews, a collar and leash, toys, grooming supplies such as a brush, shampoo, comb, nail clippers, and toothbrush, and waste bags for tidy and responsible walks.
Cockapoos come in a variety of sizes, ranging from the tall and slender Toy Cockapoo to the sturdy Maxi Cockapoo. Toy Cockapoos can reach up to 10 inches in height and weigh about 9-10 pounds. The Mini Cockapoo is a bit bigger, between 11-14 inches and can weigh up to 20 pounds. The Medium Cockapoo is in the middle, falling between 12-15 inches in height and up to 25 pounds in weight. Lastly the Maxi Cockapoo, which is the biggest.
Absolutely! Cockapoos are extremely active and playful dogs who need exercise and stimulation on a daily basis. They thrive on activities such as going on walks, playing fetch, and agility courses. Additionally, they enjoy mental stimulation like hide and seek and challenge-based tasks. Keeping them active is crucial to ensure they stay healthy and properly stimulated in order to avoid behavioral problems and excess energy. It is recommended that Cockapoos get at least an hour of exercise and play each day, and they need to be walked at least twice a day.
Cockapoos are well known for their loving personalities and mild-mannered dispositions, making them an ideal fit for households with children. They engage with and take joy in interacting with humans, which makes them excellent playmates. Their smaller size also makes them easy to hold and cuddle with, a trait that children are sure to love. Due to their intelligence, Cockapoos are relatively easy to train and respond well to positive rewards. In addition, they require minimal grooming and exercise, making them accessible for families with limited time.
Training a Cockapoo can be a rewarding task, as they are very intelligent and eager to please. With patience and consistency, Cockapoos are quite simple to train. It's best to start with basic commands, such as sit, stay, come, and leave it. By practicing regularly and rewarding them with treats and positive reinforcement, Cockapoos can quickly learn and remember these commands. As Cockapoos are people-oriented and desire affection, they can become easily distracted.
