Questions & Answers
Cockapoos are a cross-breed of a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, so they are classed as a designer breed of dog. They are extremely intelligent, affectionate and can make excellent companion pets. Cockapoos come in a variety of colors and coat lengths and sizes, depending on the size of their parent breeds. The cockapoo breed tends to have a lifespan of 12-15 years and is generally very low maintenance, making them great for those with busy lifestyles. They usually require little exercise but are gentle and energetic companions for active owners.
Cockapoos are typically considered hypoallergenic, so they should not cause you to have allergies. However, it is possible for a person to be allergic to anything, even if there is no history of allergy to a specific species of animal. It is always best to check with your doctor if you think you may have allergies to any pet, including a Cockapoo. Additionally, it is always a good idea to spend time with a Cockapoo before adoption to be sure you aren't having an allergic reaction.
Cockapoos are considered highly intelligent and active dogs that thrive when they receive proper nutrition. Generally, Cockapoos should be offered a quality dry kibble diet that is formulated specifically for the size and age of your pup. Depending on their age and energy levels, you may be able to increase their daily caloric intake with healthy supplements, such as sprigs of lightly cooked broccoli, small pieces of cooked and chilled sweet potatoes, and other human-grade foods. It is important to make sure they're not getting too many calories, as this can lead to obesity and other health problems.
Having a Cockapoo is a great joy, and one that requires a bit of preparation. Before bringing your new Cockapoo home, some essential items you should purchase are a crate, dog bed, collar and leash, toys, food and water bowls, treats, and a safe place for the puppy to play and explore. Additionally, you should also look into getting regular heartworm and flea prevention treatments, as well as high-quality food, veterinarian visits, and spay/neuter surgery.
Cockapoos are not considered to be large dogs. On average, they stand between 12 and 18 inches at the shoulder and can weigh anywhere between 10 and 30 pounds, depending on whether they take after their Toy Poodle or Cocker Spaniel parent. While the American Kennel Club does not recognize the Cockapoo as an official breed, they are considered a designer breed that can come in a variety of colors and sizes. But in terms of size, they tend to be smaller than the average dog breed.
Cockapoos are known for being an active breed that loves adventure and exploration. Among their favorite activities is swimming, which is a great way to exercise and play. They tend to be good swimmers as well, particularly if provided with frequent exposure and practice at an early age. Cockapoos often express an eagerness to take a dip in the backyard pool or go for a swim at the beach. What's more, since they have very low-shedding coats, they don't have to worry about their fur becoming waterlogged or difficult to manage.
Cockapoos can be a great pet for families with children. They are known for their social and friendly demeanor and tend to get along well with kids. A Cockapoo can make a wonderful companion for children and their parents will often find these dogs incredibly devoted. They tend to be very loving and easily bonded to their family. When it comes to playing, Cockapoos are known to be gentle and can be safely rough housed with without fear of aggression.
Generally speaking, Cockapoos need around 30-60 minutes of dedicated exercise per day. Of course, the exact amount of time may vary depending on the age, health, and energy level of the individual canine, as well as the particular kind of 'workout' you have in mind. For instance, if you're just taking your Cockapoo for a brisk walk, a half-hour session is likely sufficient; but if you're planning on engaging in mental stimulation activities, such as agility course work or exercising with interactive toys, you'll likely need to dedicate more time.
