Questions & Answers
Cockapoos are considered to be one of the most popular designer breeds, which are a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. They're often a favored choice for those with allergies, as they don't shed or drool. They have hypoallergenic coats, and are considered to be lively, friendly and intelligent. An average Cockapoo can weigh between 12-25 pounds, and tend to reach their adult size between 8-12 months. They love to play games and learn tricks, and their energetic and devoted nature makes them great family dogs.
The Cockapoo is known for its unique coat! It can vary in color, cut, texture, and length. The texture of the coat can range from soft and wavy to curly and corded. Most owners prefer long coats for their Cockapoo, since they require more maintenance and upkeep but reward owners with an even softer and more luxurious feel. Colors can span from pure white, to reds, oranges, creams, and dark brown shades. Owners may also choose to cut their Cockapoos coat into a standard puppy cut or a teddy bear cut.
Cockapoos do not inherently have special dietary needs, yet their size and activity level should be factored into determining their respective nutrition needs. To start, the regular diet should consist of high quality, human-grade ingredients to ensure the pup is getting the vitamins and minerals it needs for growth and development. One should also take into account the pup's age, weight, and activity level to determine if the pup needs more than the average amount of food to stay healthy. Younger Cockapoos will need more calories per pound than adult Cockapoos to meet their growth demands.
Preparation is key to having a successful relationship with your new Cockapoo. The first step is to research the breed so that you are aware of the special needs that come with owning a Cockapoo. Factors like temperament, exercise needs, and grooming needs should be taken into account. Once you have determined the best environment and lifestyle for the Cockapoo, it is important to make sure your home is prepared. Make sure there is a designated area for meals, play, and rest.
Cockapoos come in various sizes, with the toy cockapoo at the smaller end typically reaching around 10-12 inches from paw to shoulder. The small Cockapoo can weigh around 8-15 lbs. The medium-sized Cockapoo is usually 14-15 inches in height and usually weighs between 15-20 lbs and the large Cockapoo will measure 15-17 inches tall and will weigh anything from 20-50 lbs. Generally, the size of Cockapoos are affected by which breed of Poodle and which breed of Cocker Spaniel is used to create the mix.
Every Cockapoo will have its own individual needs for exercise, but a good rule of thumb is that they should be walked for at least 30 minutes to an hour a day. The amount of exercise will vary depending on the age and energy level of the dog. Puppies and high-energy dogs may need more exercise than an adult dog. Allocating your Cockapoo the right amount of activity to maintain a healthy weight is essential for them. It's important to try and get your pup walking every day in short bursts of exercise or one long walk to meet their daily needs.
Cockapoos are generally a great choice for first-time owners as they are very affectionate and loyal dogs. They have a relatively low-maintenance coat and don't usually require a lot of grooming, yet they're still considered to possess desirable hypoallergenic qualities. As a generally social breed, Cockapoos are also well-suited for first-time owners since they are easy to train and eager to please. With proper training, their friendly and easy-going nature makes them an ideal companion for the novice dog owner.
Training a Cockapoo can be quite easy if you are prepared to dedicate yourself to properly bonding with your pup and establishing consistent rules and guidelines. Start off with basic houses Rules such as not jumping on furniture, going to the bathroom only in the appropriate areas, not chewing on items and begin training in basic commands such as sit, stay, come, and no (for stopping unwanted behaviors). Additionally, positively reinforced reward-based training techniques can help to encourage consistent and appropriate behavioral responses.
