Questions & Answers
Cockapoos are a hybrid breed combining the gentle, intelligent nature of the Cocker Spaniel and the low-shedding, hypoallergenic coat of the Poodle. They are among the healthiest and most popular designer breeds. Not only do they make great family pets, but Cockapoos are also excellent therapy and service dogs. These loving and devoted four-legged companions are known for being outgoing, loyal, and affectionate. They have a long lifespan of 14 to 16 years, and, depending on their size, can weigh anywhere from 6 to 24 pounds. Fun fact:
The Cockapoo coat is unique in that it can vary greatly from one pup to the next. Depending on the parents' coats, Cockapoos may have soft or coarse furs that can be straight, wavy, or curly. Their coats can come in different lengths as well, ranging from long and thick to short and fine. Colors vary as well with Cockapoos, and you can find them in a wide range of colors from shades of cream or red to black or white.
Cockapoos are an intelligent, active, loyal breed that requires a balanced diet to stay healthy. Generally, a diet specifically designed for small breed canines, rich in protein and low in fat, is best. Additionally, Cockapoos should be given a variety of fresh, whole foods, such as lean meats, eggs, fruits and vegetables, and complex carbohydrates, like sweet potatoes or brown rice. In addition to their regular meal, they should have a handful of healthy treats daily, and fresh water should be available at all times.
Before getting a Cockapoo, some essential items you'll need to purchase include food, treats, a collar, leashes/harnesses, toys, grooming supplies, a bed, a crate, and a carrier. Food and treats should be tailored to your puppy's age and needs. A collar is essential for holding an identification tag, so make sure to choose one that's comfortable, fits well, and isn't too loose. You should also get two leashes, one short for walking your pup and a longer one for playing off-leash in a safe area.
Cockapoos are a popular mix between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, and their size is dependent on the size of the parent breeds. Generally, Cockapoos are small dogs, but the full grown size range is quite varied. Toy Cockapoos can reach only 6-10 inches tall and weigh 4-10 pounds. Miniature Cockapoos will grow to be 12-14 inches and 10-20 pounds. On the larger side, Standard Cockapoos can get up to 15-20 inches in height and 20-50 pounds in weight.
Cockapoos have a variety of traits which makes them a unique breed. These traits include a high degree of intelligence and a strong desire to please their owners. This combination of traits make them adept swimmers. Cockapoos have the energy, intelligence and agility to master the pool and other bodies of water. They can easily learn how to paddle and swim with their owners, and they also love the physical challenge that swimming offers. Swimming is a great and safe way for them to burn calories, release energy and receive mental stimulation.
Cockapoos are great for first-time owners, combining the friendly, outgoing nature of a Poodle with the loyalty and trainability of a Cocker Spaniel. They are intelligent, form strong bonds with their owners, and have a playful nature that makes them enjoyable companions. As a smallto medium-sized breed, they are an ideal size for novice owners who may not have the same energy levels as owners of large breeds. With today's modern grooming systems, they don't require a lot of maintenance and are easy to keep looking good.
The amount of time you need to train a Cockapoo each day will depend on its age, skill level, and how quickly it can learn. Generally speaking, though, you should dedicate at least 15 minutes per day to training your Cockapoo. This can be broken up into several smaller sessions or one longer session depending on what works best for your pup. If you keep consistent and practice good techniques, you should be able to increase the amount of time spent training as your Cockapoo's skill level improves.
