This type of dog is considered a designer breed and is classified as an “other” or “hybrid” breed by most kennel clubs. Cockapoos vary greatly in size and appearance, depending on the type of Poodle used for breeding. Typically, they range from 10 to 15 inches tall and can weigh between 6 and 25 pounds.
Cockapoos have been known to be low-shedding or considered hypoallergenic. This hybrid crossbreed is a mix between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, which is why they are commonly referred to as a Cockapoo. Both of these parent breeds are normally low-shedding, so involving them with each other allows for a low-shedding outcome. That said, not all Cockapoos are created equal and as with all dogs, some will shed more than others.
It is important to keep in mind the dietary needs of Cockapoos when considering what food to give them. Cockapoos are a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and Poodle, so they should not be given overly-heavy or meat-based food. Other items such as onions, garlic, grapes, and raisins can be toxic and should never be given to a Cockapoo.
