Initially, they were used in packs to hunt badgers and other burrow-dwelling animals. They are also nicknamed "sausage dogs" because of their long bodies and short legs. Additionally, Dachshunds come in three different sizes – miniature, standard, and Kaninchen – and six different coat types.
Dachshunds are not considered to be a hypoallergenic breed. While their short coats do not shed a lot of fur, they can still produce allergens that can trigger allergic reactions in people. Depending on the individual, some dachshunds may cause more of an allergic reaction than others.
