Dachshunds are full of personality and make wonderful companions. They are brave yet loyal, and each one has a unique and fun-loving spirit. For starters, Dachshunds were originally bred in Germany hundreds of years ago to hunt badgers, and the name is literally translated as 'badger-dog'. They are also well-known for their wide range in size, from miniature to standard, and come in numerous coat variations. Surprisingly, they are the 15th most popular dog breed according to the American Kennel Club list.
Unfortunately, Dachshunds are not hypoallergenic. There is no scientific evidence that any breed of dog is completely hypoallergenic. As is the case with other breeds, their size and coat type may be less likely to trigger allergic reactions in some people. However, pet dander, saliva, and urine still contain proteins that can cause reactions, especially for people with allergies or sensitivities.
Dachshunds do best on a food that is low in fat and specifically tailored to their unique needs.
