Dachshunds are a fascinating breed of dog! Not only do they come in a variety of sizes, from miniature to standard, they also come in two primary coat types, smooth and wire-haired. They are also considered incredibly intelligent and loyal family pets. Another interesting thing about Dachshunds is that their long body and stubby legs make them excellent diggers and hunters. This unique combination of body proportions makes them particularly adept at tracking down burrowing creatures, like rabbits and badgers.
Every individual's allergies are different so it is hard to definitively predict whether owning a Dachshund will cause an allergic reaction. While some people may be allergic to Dachshunds and their fur, it is more likely that the individual is allergic to pet dander that Dachshunds (or any breed of dog) carry. Pet dander is made up of a combination of saliva, skin flakes, and urine which can cause an allergic reaction for an individual.
